Manager, Cloud Optimization Engineering (FinOps)
Platform Engineering | Multiple Locations
About the Role
We are looking for a strategic, technically deep leader to build and lead our Cloud Optimization Engineering function. This team operates at the intersection of Engineering, Finance, and Product, and plays a critical role in shaping how we scale our SaaS platform efficiently.
This is not a traditional cost optimization or CloudOps role. Success in this position comes from the ability to influence decisions across a wide range of engineering teams, translate complex technical systems into financial impact, and challenge assumptions to drive better outcomes.
You will define how cost is understood, communicated, and acted on across the organization—ensuring that as we grow, we do so with intentional, data-driven tradeoffs between cost, performance, and scalability.
Responsibilities
Shape Cost-Aware Engineering Decisions
- Influence architecture and design decisions across engineering teams by providing clear visibility into cost drivers, tradeoffs, and long-term implications
- Partner with teams to embed cost-awareness into day-to-day engineering decisions, without relying on direct ownership or mandate
- Proactively challenge assumptions and guide teams toward solutions that balance cost, performance, and reliability
Bridge Engineering, Finance, and Leadership
- Act as a translator between Engineering, FP&A, and executive leadership by turning complex infrastructure usage and architecture into clear financial narratives and actionable insights
- Ensure financial goals are grounded in technical reality, and engineering decisions are understood in financial terms
- Support planning cycles, budgeting, and long-range forecasting with accurate, data-driven models
Drive Strategic Cost Management
- Own the company’s approach to cloud cost visibility, forecasting, and optimization across AWS, GCP, Azure, and SaaS vendors
- Lead cost modeling for major initiatives (e.g., new product launches, architectural changes, scaling events)
- Identify and drive high-impact opportunities to improve efficiency—both through optimization and by influencing upstream decisions
- Partner in vendor strategy, including commitment management, pricing models, and negotiations
Build Systems, Tooling, and Processes
- Establish scalable frameworks for cost allocation, anomaly detection, and unit economics (e.g., cost per customer, product, or workload)
- Ensure engineers have actionable, accessible insights into their cost footprint
- Drive adoption of best practices in tagging, attribution, and cost observability
Lead and Grow a High-Impact Team
- Build and lead a team of engineers focused on cloud optimization and cost-aware systems
- Set clear priorities aligned with company-level financial and technical goals
- Develop a culture of ownership, curiosity, and continuous improvement
- Serve as the executive-facing owner of cloud cost strategy and outcomes
Qualifications & Traits
Core Experience
- 7+ years in software engineering, infrastructure, or platform engineering roles
- 3+ years of experience leading or mentoring engineers or technical teams
- Deep experience with public cloud environments (AWS preferred) and modern SaaS architectures
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, data-intensive workloads, and cloud cost drivers
Strategic & Analytical Thinking
- Ability to evaluate and communicate tradeoffs between cost, performance, and scalability
- Experience modeling the financial impact of technical decisions or system changes
- Systems-level thinker who can connect architecture decisions to business outcomes
Influence & Communication
- Demonstrated ability to influence engineering teams and drive change without direct authority
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate between technical, financial, and executive audiences
- Confidence in challenging assumptions and guiding teams toward better decisions
Financial & Operational Acumen
- Experience working with or alongside FP&A, finance, or business stakeholders
- Familiarity with cloud billing models, pricing constructs, and cost allocation approaches
- Experience contributing to forecasting, budgeting, or financial planning processes
Leadership
- Track record of building trust across teams and driving cross-functional initiatives
- Ability to create clarity in ambiguous, evolving environments
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability for outcomes
Nice to Have
- Experience in FinOps or cloud financial management practices
- Multi-cloud experience (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Experience with cost observability tools (e.g., Cloudability, CloudZero)
- Exposure to unit economics modeling in a SaaS environment
Why This Role Matters
Cloud infrastructure is one of our largest and fastest-growing investments. This role ensures that we scale efficiently—making intentional, well-informed decisions that balance cost with performance and innovation.
You will play a key role in improving margins, enabling smarter product decisions, and helping the business grow sustainably.

Frame Your Credentials Around Cybersecurity Business Context
Rapid7 values Business Managers who understand how security products are sold, deployed, and renewed. Tailor your resume to show experience with SaaS go-to-market cycles, cross-functional stakeholder management, or technical account strategy relevant to the security software space.
Target Rapid7 Roles Matched to Your Visa Type
Use Migrate Mate to filter Business Manager openings at Rapid7 by the visa types they actively sponsor, so you're only applying to roles where your status is a known fit before you write a single cover letter.
Verify Your OPT Timeline Before Applying
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm how many months remain before you start Rapid7's interview process. STEM OPT extension gives you up to 24 additional months, but your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify, which Rapid7 participates in as a federal contractor-adjacent employer.
Understand How TN Status Applies to This Role
TN visas cover specific professional categories. A Business Manager title alone doesn't automatically qualify. Review whether your background aligns with a DOL-recognized TN category like Management Consultant, and confirm the job description supports that classification before accepting an offer.
Raise Sponsorship Expectations Early in the Process
Rapid7 recruiters handle a high volume of roles across the business. Clarifying your visa needs before the final interview stage prevents late-stage offer complications and signals professional preparedness, particularly for roles where PERM-based Green Card sponsorship timelines may factor into your long-term planning.
Build Evidence of Cross-Functional Impact for the PERM Stage
If Rapid7 moves toward EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship for your role, USCIS and the DOL will scrutinize whether your position reflects the job requirements filed. Document your contributions to revenue, partner programs, or operational process improvements throughout your tenure so evidence is ready when needed.

Find Business Manager at Rapid7 JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Rapid7 sponsor H-1B visas for Business Managers?
Rapid7's sponsorship activity for Business Manager roles has included employment-based pathways such as EB-2 and EB-3, along with F-1 OPT and TN. H-1B sponsorship for business-facing roles at technology companies depends on whether the position meets USCIS specialty occupation criteria, which typically requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Confirming this fit with the recruiter early in the process is the right approach.
Which visa types are commonly used for Business Manager roles at Rapid7?
Rapid7 has sponsored Business Managers through F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and employment-based Green Card categories including EB-2 and EB-3. Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying credentials often pursue TN status for business-related roles. Longer-term sponsorship through PERM-based EB-3 is available for full-time positions where the role meets DOL prevailing wage and recruitment requirements.
How do I apply for Business Manager jobs at Rapid7?
Browse open Business Manager positions at Rapid7 through Migrate Mate, which filters jobs by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm your status is supported before applying. Rapid7 posts roles across product lines, regional sales operations, and partner programs. Applications go through Rapid7's careers portal. Tailoring your resume to the specific team's focus, whether that's cloud security, MDR, or vulnerability management, significantly strengthens your application.
What qualifications does Rapid7 expect for Business Manager positions?
Rapid7 Business Manager roles typically require a bachelor's degree in business, management, or a related field, along with experience in enterprise software, SaaS operations, or technology partnerships. Familiarity with cybersecurity concepts, cross-functional project ownership, and stakeholder communication are common expectations. Senior roles often require demonstrated experience managing revenue-generating programs or go-to-market execution within a technology company.
How do I understand the timeline for Green Card sponsorship in a Business Manager role at Rapid7?
PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 is a multi-stage process involving DOL labor market testing, USCIS petition filing, and visa availability based on your country of birth. For Indian and Chinese nationals, priority date backlogs extend total timelines significantly beyond the initial approval. Rapid7's HR and legal teams typically initiate this process after you've been employed for a qualifying period, so understanding your priority date position from day one helps with planning.
