We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there. A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.
The Team
The Avatar Team is at the heart of the Roblox experience. The Roblox Avatar defines the identity of every player and is a core pillar of the metaverse. Within this group, the Avatar Heads and Bodies team ensures that these foundational avatar components are high-quality, performant, and reliable at scale. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our User-Generated Content (UGC) Validation engineering initiatives. This role focuses on advancing our existing automation and validation systems to ensure that the rapidly growing ecosystem of 3D marketplace content meets our platform standards.
The Role
As a Senior Software Engineer for UGC Validation, you will focus on scaling and evolving our automated systems to validate 3D assets uploaded directly to the Roblox marketplace. Your primary responsibility will be to develop engineering solutions that quantitatively enforce our marketplace policies. Rather than building systems from scratch, you will expand upon our established validation frameworks to detect avatar schema compliance, flag geometry-based exploits, and programmatically measure asset quality. In this role, you will serve as a core practical resource for geometric processing, helping our broader engineering and machine learning initiatives build highly precise automated setup tools.
You Will
- Scale and Extend Automated Validation: Maintain, optimize, and expand our existing engineering systems to analyze 3D geometry, avatar schema compliance, rigging structures, and asset metadata.
- Enforce Marketplace Policy: Develop and refine quantitative, programmatic metrics to evaluate incoming UGC assets against platform quality standards and security rules before they reach hundreds of millions of users.
- Geometric Processing Resource: Serve as a practical engineering resource for geometric processing, collaborating closely with machine learning teams to enhance asset quality pipelines.
- Cross-Functional Execution: Work across the avatar stack, collaborating with engineers, product owners, and artists to translate complex marketplace policy requirements into clean, scalable code updates.
- Optimize Existing Pipelines: Enhance sophisticated data and validation pipelines capable of handling large-scale 3D assets like meshes and textures with high runtime efficiency.
You Have
- Education: A BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field, or relevant work experience.
- Expert 3D Math Foundation: Exceptional spatial reasoning and a deep mastery of 3D math, specifically linear algebra tailored for game engines and 3D environments.
- Geometric Processing Expertise: Strong experience manipulating and analyzing 3D data, including meshes, vertices, and topology.
- Schema & Avatar Knowledge: Solid understanding of avatar schema compliance, rigging, skinning weights, and animation principles.
- Software Engineering Excellence: Strong programming skills in C++, Luau, Python (or similar production languages) with a proven track record in system optimization, data pipelining, and complex software design.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Hands-on experience with runtime game engines.
- Foundational knowledge of rendering pipelines.
You Are
- A Proven Problem Solver: You enjoy solving ambiguous, complex technical challenges and have a history of delivering production-ready engineering updates.
- A Collaborative Teammate: You thrive in cross-functional environments, bridging programmatic geometry constraints with artist and platform needs.
- Mission-Driven: You are passionate about building a safe, high-quality, and civil marketplace ecosystem for a global community.

Tips for Finding Senior AI Software Engineer Jobs at Roblox
Align your portfolio with Roblox's AI stack
Roblox's AI work spans generative content, recommendation systems, and real-time moderation. Before applying, tailor your portfolio to show experience in at least one of these domains. Generic ML projects won't stand out in a senior-level review.
Clarify your visa category before interviews begin
Roblox sponsors several visa types, so know which category applies to you before your first screen. Arriving at an offer stage without clarity on your status wastes time for both sides and can stall the filing process.
Time your application around H-1B cap registration
If you need H-1B sponsorship, target Roblox's recruiting cycle so an offer lands before the March registration window. USCIS opens the H-1B lottery annually, and missing it means waiting another full year before your status can change.
Verify your degree's specialty occupation alignment
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree field and the role. For Senior AI Software Engineers, a degree in computer science, mathematics, or a closely related discipline strengthens the petition. A mismatched degree field can trigger a Request for Evidence.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Senior AI Software Engineer roles at Roblox
Roblox posts roles across multiple channels and the listings move quickly. Use Migrate Mate to surface Senior AI Software Engineer openings filtered by sponsorship eligibility so you're applying to positions that match your visa situation.
Request premium processing if your start date is fixed
USCIS premium processing upgrades H-1B adjudication to 15 business days. If you have a hard start date tied to a project cycle or OPT expiration, ask Roblox's immigration team early whether they'll elect premium processing on the petition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Roblox sponsor H-1B visas for Senior AI Software Engineers?
Yes. Roblox sponsors H-1B visas for Senior AI Software Engineer roles and has a consistent track record of doing so across its engineering organization. If you need H-1B sponsorship, the critical timing factor is the annual USCIS registration window in March. An offer needs to be in place before that window opens for you to be included in the lottery.
Which visa types does Roblox commonly sponsor for Senior AI Software Engineer roles?
Roblox sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, E-3 visa, TN visa, F-1 OPT, and employment-based Green Card categories including EB-2 and EB-3 for engineering roles. Australian citizens on the E-3 visa and Canadian or Mexican nationals on the TN visa can often move faster because those categories are not subject to the H-1B lottery. Your eligibility depends on your nationality, degree, and job duties.
How do I apply for Senior AI Software Engineer jobs at Roblox?
Apply directly through Roblox's careers page or use Migrate Mate to browse open Senior AI Software Engineer positions filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility. The interview process typically includes a recruiter screen, technical assessments covering ML fundamentals and system design, and final-round interviews with the engineering team. Indicating your visa requirements early prevents mismatches late in the process.
What qualifications does Roblox expect for a Senior AI Software Engineer?
Senior AI Software Engineer roles at Roblox generally require a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, machine learning, or a related quantitative field, along with substantial industry experience building and deploying production ML systems. For USCIS purposes, the degree must align directly with the role's duties. Roblox's AI teams work at significant scale, so experience with distributed training, inference optimization, or real-time ranking systems is relevant.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship at Roblox?
For H-1B, target an offer several months before March so the petition is ready for the USCIS registration window. F-1 OPT holders have up to 12 months of work authorization, with a 24-month STEM extension available, which gives a runway to secure sponsorship. E-3 and TN petitions move faster since they bypass the lottery. Factor in DOL Labor Condition Application certification time, which typically adds a few weeks before USCIS filing.
