INTRODUCTION
Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators.
At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.
A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Principal Software Engineer leading Fleet Management, you will be the overall technical lead across three pods and the person who sets the technical direction for the fleet management layer of Roblox. This is a hands-on, deeply technical leadership role that owns all of Roblox's compute capacity end to end: from low-level provisioning and the data plane, up through the control planes that operate it, and all the way to the UI and internal-facing products that let teams self-serve capacity. Your org centralizes security, maintenance operations, and the uptime of every Roblox Kubernetes cluster, and governs the internal customer contracts that drive automation across the fleet spanning Roblox data centers and cloud providers. You will guide architecture, raise the engineering bar, and make sure compute capacity supply and demand stay in balance as the fleet grows.
You will:
- Serve as the overall technical lead for three Fleet Management pods, setting and aligning the technical direction across low-level provisioning, the data plane, and the control plane and product surfaces above them.
- Architect the declarative, Kubernetes-style control planes that operate Roblox's compute fleet across on-prem and cloud, and define how capacity is provisioned, reconciled, and exposed at scale.
- Own the design of the internal customer contracts and APIs that govern automation across the fleet, so that every infrastructure team can operate capacity safely and predictably.
- Drive the strategy for self-serve capacity, including the internal-facing products and UIs that let teams request, manage, and reason about the compute they depend on.
- Centralize and raise the bar on security, maintenance operations, and the uptime of all Roblox Kubernetes clusters, defining how fleet-wide changes ship reliably without impacting production.
- Partner broadly with stakeholders inside and outside infrastructure to understand compute needs and drive innovation for our backend services, AI, and edge computing.
- Write code daily, staying deep in the systems your org owns and leading by example on the hardest design and implementation problems.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
You have:
- 10+ years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems and infrastructure.
- A track record as the technical anchor an organization relies on, with the leadership to set direction across multiple teams and up-level the engineers around you.
- Strong proficiency in Go, with deep experience designing and operating production services at fleet scale.
- Hands-on experience building declarative, Kubernetes-style control planes and the reconciliation patterns behind them.
- Strong proficiency with gRPC for service-to-service APIs and with SQL and Postgres for durable, high-scale state.
- Experience operating compute capacity across both on-prem data centers and cloud providers, and a feel for the realities of running fleets at the scale of hundreds of thousands of instances.
- A history of being highly cross-functional, partnering with stakeholders across and beyond infrastructure to design systems that keep compute supply and demand in balance.

Tips for Finding Software Engineer AI Jobs at Roblox
Tailor your portfolio to Roblox's AI stack
Roblox's AI work spans recommendation systems, content moderation, and generative tooling at platform scale. Highlight projects involving large-scale ML infrastructure, real-time inference, or safety-oriented models rather than general research prototypes.
Confirm your visa type before applying
Roblox sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, H-1B1 visa, and F-1 OPT, so your eligible category affects timing and process. Knowing which pathway fits your nationality and status lets you ask informed questions during recruiter screens without slowing the offer stage.
Start OPT paperwork before your internship converts
If you're transitioning from an F-1 internship or co-op at Roblox to a full-time Software Engineer AI role, your DSO needs lead time to issue the OPT EAD. USCIS recommends filing at least 90 days before your program end date to avoid a gap.
Align your offer timeline with H-1B cap deadlines
Cap-subject H-1B registration opens each March for an October 1 start. If your offer closes after the registration window, you'll wait a full year for the next cycle. Raise this with your Roblox recruiter early so both sides can plan around it.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Software Engineer AI roles at Roblox
Roblox posts AI engineering roles across multiple teams and levels, and positions move quickly. Migrate Mate filters Roblox openings by visa sponsorship type so you can identify the right role and apply before headcount closes.
Prepare specialty occupation documentation for your specific role
For H-1B approval, USCIS scrutinizes whether the role genuinely requires a specialized degree. For AI engineering positions, connecting your machine learning or computer science degree directly to the technical responsibilities in Roblox's job description strengthens the petition considerably.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Roblox sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineer AIs?
Yes, Roblox sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineer AI roles and has a consistent history of doing so across engineering functions. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, your employer must register you during the annual March window for an October 1 start. Roblox's recruiting and immigration teams are familiar with this process, so raising your status early in the offer conversation is straightforward.
Which visa types does Roblox commonly sponsor for Software Engineer AI roles?
Roblox sponsors several nonimmigrant visa categories for this function, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, E-3 visa for Australian citizens, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and F-1 OPT for recent graduates. For longer-term pathways, Roblox also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, which typically begins after you've established yourself in the role.
How do I apply for Software Engineer AI jobs at Roblox?
You can browse and apply for Software Engineer AI roles at Roblox directly through Roblox's careers site or through Migrate Mate, which surfaces Roblox openings filtered by visa sponsorship category. The interview process for AI engineering roles typically involves a technical screen, multiple coding and system design rounds, and a machine learning depth interview. Applying early matters because AI headcount at Roblox fills quickly.
What qualifications does Roblox expect for Software Engineer AI roles?
Roblox typically looks for a bachelor's or advanced degree in computer science, machine learning, or a closely related field, along with hands-on experience building and deploying ML systems at scale. For H-1B purposes, that degree requirement also anchors the specialty occupation determination with USCIS. Experience with recommendation engines, large language models, or content safety systems aligns well with Roblox's active AI investment areas.
How do I time my application if I need visa sponsorship at Roblox?
Timing depends on your current status. F-1 OPT holders should confirm their EAD validity covers the projected start date and coordinate with USCIS timelines before signing an offer. Cap-subject H-1B candidates need an offer in place before the March registration window. E-3 and TN holders have more flexibility since those categories aren't lottery-based, but consular appointment availability and DOL Labor Condition Application certification still add lead time to plan around.
