INTRODUCTION
Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators. At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there. A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Geometry group in Engine & Digital Matter enables real-time solid content creation and adaptive solid-matter streaming so everything on Roblox feels like it’s made of the same “stuff”. In this role, you will lead the Geometry Scalability pod, owning the engine technologies that let creators build larger, denser, and more detailed worlds and avatars that run well on any device. Reporting directly to Sr. Director, Engineering, you will be the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for SLIM (Scalable Lightweight Interactive Models) and related geometry scalability capabilities as they expand from static environments to avatars and articulated models.
YOU WILL
- Own the vision and roadmap: Define the future of geometry scalability across SLIM, GeoGen/FastCluster, and mesh Level of Detail (LoD) over a 1–3 year horizon.
- Drive technical innovation: Lead the development of new algorithms and architectures in areas like mesh simplification (WMS/CMS), vertex clustering, and scalable skinning/transcoding pipelines.
- Execute end-to-end delivery: Manage the design, implementation, testing infrastructure, and long-term maintenance of SLIM and related systems.
- Drive cross-group collaboration: Establish strong partnerships with sibling pods and drive delivery across Geometry, Rendering, Avatar, and Content Platform teams to ensure dependencies are unblocked early.
- Lead and grow a high-performing team: Manage, coach, recruit, and retain top-tier geometry, graphics, and systems talent, building succession depth and empowering senior ICs.
- Represent your team: Act as the voice for Geometry Scalability in company forums, roadmap reviews, and community-facing partnerships to ensure features are aligned with creator needs.
YOU HAVE
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical field.
- 4+ years of engineering management experience (EM1/EM2 scope), including leading senior/staff C++ engineers on complex, cross-team engine or platform projects.
- A proven track record of shipping large-scale C++ engine or real-time 3D systems, and experience owning a multi-year technical roadmap.
- A strong background in 3D computational geometry and numerical methods, including mesh processing, LoD generation, and linear algebra.
- Deep expertise in modern C++ and low-level performance optimization on CPU/GPU.
- Preferred: Familiarity with skinning, animation, and avatar systems, or prior contributions to graphics/geometry research (e.g., SIGGRAPH) and productionization.
YOU ARE
- Deeply technical: You love 3D geometry and C++ engines, and you thrive on shipping complex cross-team systems.
- A culture builder: You demonstrate the ability to build a healthy team culture based on clear expectations, psychological safety, and direct feedback.
- An effective leader: You set a high technical bar, uplevel engineers, and create an environment that balances rapid iteration with a high bar for correctness and performance.
- An exceptional communicator: You are comfortable representing your team’s work to senior leadership and can easily translate between deep technical details and business/customer impact.

Align your portfolio with Roblox's engineering scale
Roblox SEM roles demand experience leading teams on distributed systems, real-time infrastructure, or platform tooling. Document concrete examples of cross-functional technical leadership before applying, since their bar for engineering managers skews heavily toward systems depth.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open SEM roles
Roblox posts Software Engineering Manager openings across multiple teams simultaneously and they fill quickly. Use Migrate Mate to filter for verified sponsoring employers in the Technology and Software sector so you're targeting active, sponsorship-confirmed listings.
Negotiate start dates around H-1B cap timelines
If you're cap-subject, your H-1B can't start before October 1. When Roblox extends an offer, confirm whether they'll file during the April lottery window and build your notice period accordingly so your employment start aligns with USCIS approval.
Prepare your credentials for a specialty occupation determination
USCIS requires that Software Engineering Manager roles meet specialty occupation standards. Have transcripts, degree equivalency evaluations if your degree is from outside the U.S., and a detailed job description ready so Roblox's immigration counsel can build a strong I-129 petition.
Ask about internal transfer options if you're already in the U.S.
If you're on OPT or another employer's H-1B, Roblox can file an H-1B transfer or OPT-to-H-1B petition without waiting for the lottery. Confirm with the recruiter whether your current authorization status qualifies for a cap-exempt or concurrent filing scenario.

Find Software Engineering Manager at Roblox JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Roblox sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineering Managers?
Yes, Roblox sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineering Manager roles. They have an established immigration program that handles petitions through the annual USCIS lottery for cap-subject candidates, as well as transfers for applicants already holding H-1B status with another employer. Their engineering leadership roles consistently meet the specialty occupation standard required for H-1B approval.
How do I apply for Software Engineering Manager jobs at Roblox?
Applications go through Roblox's careers page, where SEM roles are listed by team and level. The process typically involves a recruiter screen, a technical leadership interview assessing systems design and people management depth, and a final round with cross-functional stakeholders. Migrate Mate lists verified Software Engineering Manager openings at Roblox with sponsorship confirmation, so you can identify active roles before applying directly.
Which visa types does Roblox commonly sponsor for Software Engineering Managers?
Roblox sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, E-3 for Australian citizens, TN for Canadian and Mexican professionals, F-1 OPT for recent graduates, and employment-based Green Cards through EB-2 and EB-3 categories. The right category depends on your nationality and career stage, and Roblox's immigration team works with external counsel to determine the appropriate path.
What qualifications does Roblox expect for Software Engineering Manager roles?
Roblox typically looks for managers who have led medium-to-large engineering teams on high-scale consumer or platform products. Strong candidates demonstrate hands-on technical fluency in areas like distributed systems, real-time infrastructure, or developer tooling, alongside a track record of recruiting, growing, and retaining engineers. A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is the baseline credential for H-1B specialty occupation purposes.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Roblox SEM offer?
Timeline depends on your visa category. H-1B petitions are filed in April with an October 1 start date, so expect a six-month gap if you're cap-subject. H-1B transfers and E-3 or TN approvals can move faster, often within four to eight weeks. USCIS premium processing, which Roblox has historically offered, reduces the adjudication window to around 15 business days for eligible petition types.
