Tips for Finding Software Developer Jobs at Roblox
Align your portfolio to Roblox's platform work
Roblox prioritizes engineers with experience in large-scale distributed systems, real-time infrastructure, or game engine development. Before applying, tailor your portfolio to reflect work at that scale, since generic CRUD app experience won't stand out in their technical screens.
Confirm your visa type matches the role level
Roblox sponsors multiple visa categories, but not every type suits every seniority level. Entry-level roles align well with F-1 OPT or TN status, while mid-to-senior positions are typically the target for H-1B and Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3.
File your H-1B registration before April's lottery
If you're targeting H-1B sponsorship, USCIS opens the electronic registration window in March. Your offer needs to be in place before then, so start the Roblox interview process by January at the latest to leave your employer enough lead time.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Software Developer roles
Roblox posts Software Developer openings across multiple teams at different hiring cadences. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Roblox roles that support your visa category, so you're not manually tracking postings across platforms or applying to roles that don't match your status.
Ask recruiting about LCA timing during offer negotiation
Your employer files the Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your H-1B petition can proceed. During the offer stage, ask Roblox's recruiting team when they plan to initiate the LCA so you can map that against your current status expiration or OPT end date.
Prepare for technical interviews that test systems design depth
Roblox's Software Developer interviews consistently go deep on systems design, concurrency, and low-latency architecture. Spend time preparing real-world examples from your experience, since interviewers at Roblox evaluate how you reason through scale problems, not just whether you know standard algorithms.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Roblox sponsor H-1B visas for Software Developers?
Yes, Roblox sponsors H-1B visas for Software Developer roles. They also support H-1B1 visa for Singaporean and Chilean nationals and E-3 for Australian citizens. Sponsorship typically applies to mid-to-senior level roles, and Roblox works with immigration counsel to file petitions through the standard USCIS process, including premium processing when timelines require it.
How do I apply for Software Developer jobs at Roblox?
Applications go through Roblox's careers portal, where roles are listed by team and location. You can also browse current Software Developer openings at Roblox that match your visa category on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for visa-sponsoring employers. The process typically involves a recruiter screen, technical assessments, and a systems design interview loop before an offer is extended.
Which visa types does Roblox commonly sponsor for Software Developer roles?
Roblox sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT for Software Developer positions, and supports Green Card sponsorship through the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based categories. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree, and career stage. Australians can pursue E-3, Canadians and Mexicans are eligible for TN, and most other nationalities typically use the H-1B pathway.
What qualifications does Roblox expect for Software Developer roles?
Roblox generally expects a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field, which also satisfies the specialty occupation requirement for H-1B sponsorship. Beyond credentials, they look for experience in systems-level programming, distributed infrastructure, or real-time platform development. Roles on the gaming engine or developer platform teams often require C++ or Rust proficiency alongside strong systems design fundamentals.
How do I time my application around my visa status expiration?
If you're on F-1 OPT, apply to Roblox at least five to six months before your OPT ends to allow time for the interview process and H-1B registration in March. If you're in the 60-day grace period after a job ends, you have limited time before you're out of status, so prioritize applications at companies like Roblox with established sponsorship workflows. USCIS allows H-1B transfers with a receipt notice, which means you can start work before approval if changing from another H-1B employer.
