Target faculty and research roles first
Rowan University's sponsorship activity is concentrated in academic and research positions. If your background is in STEM, healthcare, or social sciences, these departments are your strongest entry point for visa-sponsored roles at the university.
Understand which visa types Rowan supports
Rowan sponsors H-1B, TN, J-1, and Green Card pathways, as well as F-1 OPT and CPT for students. Knowing which category fits your situation before applying helps you ask the right questions during interviews and HR conversations.
Apply well before the H-1B cap deadline
Universities operate on academic hiring cycles. For cap-subject H-1B roles, Rowan must file by April 1. Target fall or winter job postings to give HR enough lead time to initiate the process before the annual deadline.
Use Migrate Mate to verify sponsorship history
Not every university job posting mentions visa sponsorship upfront. Search Rowan University on Migrate Mate to find roles with confirmed sponsorship history, so you're not guessing which positions are actually open to international candidates.
Leverage cap-exempt status as a university employee
As a nonprofit institution of higher education, Rowan University qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer. This means sponsored employees can file outside the annual lottery, making the path to H-1B status significantly more predictable.
Connect with Rowan's international hiring contacts early
Universities typically have a dedicated international scholar or HR office managing visa filings. Reaching out early in the process signals seriousness and gives the team time to coordinate the legal and administrative steps required for sponsorship.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Rowan University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Rowan University sponsors H-1B visas, primarily for faculty, researchers, and professional staff in specialized fields. As a nonprofit institution of higher education, Rowan is cap-exempt, meaning petitions can be filed at any time of year without competing in the annual lottery. This makes sponsorship timelines more flexible compared to for-profit employers.
What types of visas does Rowan University sponsor?
Rowan University sponsors a range of visa types including H-1B, TN visa, and J-1 visa for professional and academic hires, as well as Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 classifications for longer-term employees. The university also supports F-1 students through OPT and CPT programs, making it a strong option across multiple immigration stages.
Which departments or roles at Rowan University are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Rowan University tends to be most common in faculty, postdoctoral, and research-focused roles, particularly within STEM disciplines, health sciences, and social sciences. Administrative and professional staff positions in specialized fields may also qualify. Roles requiring a specific advanced degree in a defined field are generally best positioned for H-1B sponsorship.
How do I find visa-sponsored job openings at Rowan University?
The most reliable approach is to search Rowan University directly on Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles from verified sponsors and lets you filter by visa type and sponsorship history. This saves time compared to manually reviewing postings that don't always disclose sponsorship upfront. Once you identify a promising role, apply through Rowan's official careers portal and follow up with HR about sponsorship early in the process.
How do I approach the application process at Rowan University as an international candidate?
Start by identifying roles that align with your degree and experience, since H-1B sponsorship requires a direct relationship between the job and your field of study. Apply through Rowan's careers site and mention your visa status in your cover letter or during initial screening. Engaging early with Rowan's international scholar services office can help clarify what the university requires and how long the process typically takes.
