Get Your NCLEX and Oregon License First
Before Sky Lakes can file anything on your behalf, you need an active Oregon RN or LPN license. Start the NCLEX pathway and OSBN application early. Licensing delays are the most common reason nursing sponsorship timelines slip.
Target Units With Consistent Open Roles
Sky Lakes regularly posts nursing openings across multiple care units. Focus your application on departments with recurring vacancies, like med-surg or emergency, where hiring managers are more accustomed to processing international candidates through HR.
Ask HR Directly About H-1B Filing Timelines
Nursing roles qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria, but employer readiness varies. Confirm whether Sky Lakes uses an external immigration attorney and when they typically initiate H-1B petitions relative to your anticipated start date.
Prepare a Credential Evaluation Before Applying
If your nursing degree is from outside the U.S., get a NACES-approved credential evaluation that maps your coursework to U.S. equivalency. Oregon's State Board of Nursing requires this documentation before processing your licensure application.
Clarify OPT and CPT Eligibility for Your Program
If you completed a U.S. nursing program on an F-1 visa, you may be eligible for OPT or CPT work authorization. Confirm with your DSO that clinical nursing roles at a regional medical center qualify under your authorized occupation category before accepting an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Verified Sponsorship Listings
Not every nursing job posting at Sky Lakes will flag visa sponsorship availability. Use Migrate Mate to browse current openings filtered by sponsorship type so you only spend time on roles where international candidates are actively considered.

Find Nursing at Sky Lakes Medical Center JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Sky Lakes Medical Center sponsor H-1B visas for Nursings?
Sky Lakes Medical Center has sponsored H-1B visas for nursing roles. Registered nursing qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, which means H-1B petitions are a viable path for international nurses with a qualifying degree and an active Oregon nursing license. Confirm the specific timeline and attorney process directly with Sky Lakes HR during the offer stage.
How do I apply for Nursing jobs at Sky Lakes Medical Center?
Apply through Sky Lakes Medical Center's careers portal, where nursing positions are listed by unit and employment type. Tailor your application to reflect Oregon licensure status and any U.S. clinical experience. If you need sponsorship, flag that early in the process. Migrate Mate also lists current Sky Lakes nursing openings filtered by visa sponsorship type, which simplifies identifying the right roles.
Which visa types does Sky Lakes Medical Center support for nursing roles?
Sky Lakes Medical Center has supported H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visa categories for nursing candidates. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican citizens in qualifying nursing roles under the USMCA agreement. F-1 OPT is an option for nurses who completed a U.S. nursing program and are within their authorized work period.
What qualifications does Sky Lakes Medical Center expect for sponsored nursing positions?
Candidates need an active Oregon RN or LPN license, a qualifying nursing degree, and clinical experience relevant to the target unit. For international graduates, a NACES-approved credential evaluation is required by the Oregon State Board of Nursing before licensure is granted. Some specialty units may also require BLS or ACLS certification and prior experience in that care setting.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process typically take for nursing roles?
The timeline depends on your current visa status and which sponsorship route applies. H-1B petitions filed under standard USCIS processing can take several months, and the April 1 cap-subject filing window is a hard deadline. OPT and TN pathways move faster. Factor in Oregon licensure processing time, which can run eight to twelve weeks for internationally trained nurses, when planning your start date.
