Align your degree to Spirit's specialty occupations
Spirit AeroSystems files H-1B petitions under specialty occupation requirements, meaning your degree field must directly match the engineering role. A mechanical or aerospace engineering degree maps cleanly. A general business or unrelated STEM degree may not survive USCIS scrutiny, so verify the match before applying.
Target programs tied to defense contracts
Spirit supplies structures for programs like the F-35 and Boeing 737. Roles tied to defense programs sometimes carry security clearance preferences that can complicate sponsorship timelines. Research which open roles are commercial versus defense-facing before prioritizing your applications.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsorship roles
Not every Spirit AeroSystems engineering posting explicitly mentions visa sponsorship. Filter confirmed sponsoring roles by engineering function on Migrate Mate so you're targeting positions where sponsorship is already part of the hiring process, not something you need to negotiate from scratch.
Request TN classification if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship
Spirit sponsors TN visas for engineering roles that map to USMCA-listed occupations like engineer or scientist. TN status requires no lottery and can be obtained at the port of entry, making it a faster path than H-1B for eligible candidates already in the process.
Confirm your OPT start date before your offer letter is signed
Spirit hires on F-1 OPT and CPT, but STEM OPT extensions require your degree to appear on USCIS's designated STEM list. Confirm your program CIP code qualifies before accepting an offer, since the 60-day grace period leaves little room to resolve employer reporting delays.
Expect a DOL prevailing wage determination during Green Card filing
Spirit's EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorships involve PERM labor certification, where DOL sets the prevailing wage for your engineering role and location. If Spirit's offered salary falls below that wage level at the time of filing, it can stall the PERM application. Verify the wage tier for your specific Wichita or Tulsa-based role.

Find Engineering at Spirit AeroSystems JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Spirit AeroSystems sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Spirit AeroSystems sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles. Because Spirit operates in aerospace manufacturing, most engineering positions qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards, which is the baseline requirement for H-1B eligibility. Sponsorship is typically initiated after a formal offer, and Spirit's HR team manages the petition process in coordination with outside immigration counsel.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Spirit AeroSystems?
Applications go through Spirit AeroSystems' careers portal, where engineering roles are posted by discipline and location. For international candidates, Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsoring roles at Spirit so you can focus on positions where sponsorship is already confirmed. Tailor your resume to the specific aerostructures program or aircraft platform listed in the job description, since Spirit hiring managers recruit against active contracts.
Which visa types does Spirit AeroSystems commonly use for Engineering roles?
Spirit AeroSystems sponsors H-1B for most full-time engineering hires, EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for longer-term employees pursuing permanent residence, F-1 OPT and CPT for early-career engineers in co-op or graduate roles, and TN visas for Canadian and Mexican citizens in qualifying engineering occupations. The right visa depends on your citizenship, degree level, and career stage.
What qualifications does Spirit AeroSystems expect for sponsored Engineering roles?
Most sponsored engineering roles at Spirit require a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related engineering discipline, such as aerospace, mechanical, structural, or manufacturing engineering. Hands-on experience with composite structures, metallic fabrication, or aircraft systems is a common differentiator. For senior roles, familiarity with FAA regulatory frameworks or AS9100 quality standards is frequently listed as a requirement.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take once Spirit AeroSystems extends an offer?
Timeline depends on visa type. H-1B sponsorship tied to the annual lottery means you could wait up to a year before your start date if you're not already in H-1B status. TN and OPT transfers move faster, often within weeks. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM typically takes two to four years from initiation, not counting priority date backlogs for certain nationalities.
