Tailor your resume to production systems
Spirit AeroSystems Operations roles prioritize hands-on experience with lean manufacturing, AS9100 quality systems, and MRP platforms like SAP. Align your resume language to these specifics before applying, since generic operations experience won't stand out in aerospace hiring.
Target programs with active production volume
Spirit AeroSystems supports multiple commercial and defense aircraft programs across its Wichita, Tulsa, and Belfast facilities. Focus your applications on sites with active build rates, since high-volume programs drive the most Operations headcount and create the strongest case for sponsorship.
Clarify your OPT or TN status early
If you're on F-1 OPT or TN status, raise your work authorization timeline in the first recruiter conversation. Spirit AeroSystems sponsors both, but Operations hiring managers need lead time to initiate USCIS filings before your current authorization expires.
Understand how PERM affects your timeline
For EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, Spirit AeroSystems must complete a DOL PERM labor market test before filing your immigrant petition. That process typically runs six to twelve months, so factor this into your long-term planning when evaluating an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Operations roles
Spirit AeroSystems posts Operations openings across multiple facilities and programs simultaneously. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for roles where the company has a sponsorship track record, so you're applying where international candidates have successfully been hired before.
Prepare for security and export control screening
Aerospace Operations roles at Spirit AeroSystems frequently involve ITAR-controlled programs, which means some positions are restricted to U.S. persons. Confirm a role is open to sponsored candidates before investing time in the process to avoid disqualification at the offer stage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Spirit AeroSystems sponsor H-1B visas for Operations roles?
Yes, Spirit AeroSystems sponsors H-1B visas for Operations positions, particularly roles requiring specialized engineering or technical qualifications. Not every Operations job qualifies, since USCIS requires the role to meet specialty occupation standards. Roles tied to process engineering, quality systems, or advanced manufacturing tend to have the strongest sponsorship eligibility.
Which visa types does Spirit AeroSystems commonly sponsor for Operations positions?
Spirit AeroSystems sponsors H-1B, TN visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Operations roles, along with EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for longer-term candidates. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupational categories. The right visa type depends on your nationality, degree field, and the specific role's requirements.
How do I apply for Operations jobs at Spirit AeroSystems?
Applications go through Spirit AeroSystems' careers portal, where you can filter by function and location. Browse roles on Migrate Mate to identify Operations positions where visa sponsorship has historically been available, then apply directly. Tailor your application to the specific aircraft program or facility referenced in the job posting to improve your chances of a callback.
What qualifications does Spirit AeroSystems expect for sponsored Operations candidates?
Most sponsored Operations roles require a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a closely related field. Experience with lean manufacturing principles, aerospace quality standards like AS9100, and ERP systems such as SAP is frequently required. Some senior roles also expect familiarity with ITAR compliance procedures given Spirit's defense program work.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process take for Operations roles at Spirit AeroSystems?
From offer to work authorization, timelines vary by visa type. H-1B cap-subject petitions follow USCIS's annual lottery cycle, with October 1 start dates. TN and H-1B transfers for candidates already in status can move faster, often within two to three months. Green Card sponsorship through PERM adds at least six to twelve months before the immigrant petition stage.
