Tips for Finding Mental Health Jobs at Sun River Health
Verify your credentials before applying
State licensure requirements for Mental Health roles vary by position. Confirm your degree and clinical hours meet New York State licensing standards early, since unlicensed candidates will need employer-supported supervision arrangements that add complexity to any sponsorship filing.
Target federally qualified health center openings
Sun River Health operates as a Federally Qualified Health Center, which means many Mental Health roles qualify for NHSC loan repayment and National Interest Waiver eligibility under EB-2. Understanding this structure helps you frame your value beyond clinical skill alone.
Clarify OPT or CPT authorization with HR directly
If you're on F-1 status, confirm whether the specific Mental Health role supports practical training before your first interview. Not every clinical position at a community health center accommodates CPT supervision requirements, and finding this out late delays your start date.
Understand what PERM means for your timeline
EB-3 sponsorship requires DOL PERM labor certification before USCIS can adjudicate your immigrant visa petition. For Mental Health roles, this process typically runs 12 to 18 months before a green card petition is even filed, so align your immigration timeline accordingly.
Ask about supervision structure during the offer stage
Many Mental Health positions at community health organizations require licensed clinical supervision for credentialing. Confirm whether Sun River Health's supervision model satisfies both your licensure path and your visa status conditions before accepting an offer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Sun River Health sponsor H-1B visas for Mental Healths?
Sun River Health focuses its sponsorship activity on employment-based immigrant visa pathways, primarily EB-2 and EB-3, rather than H-1B visa. Mental Health professionals with clinical degrees and relevant licensure are the most common candidates for these pathways. If H-1B is your current status, ask HR directly whether they will file a cap-exempt petition given their FQHC designation.
How do I apply for Mental Health jobs at Sun River Health?
Start by browsing open Mental Health positions on Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship eligibility. Once you identify a match, apply through Sun River Health's careers portal. Tailor your application to reflect clinical experience in community health or underserved populations, since that context aligns closely with their patient population and hiring priorities.
Which visa types does Sun River Health commonly use for Mental Health roles?
Sun River Health has sponsored candidates through EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based immigrant visa categories for Mental Health positions. F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported for qualifying roles, making this a realistic option for recent graduates in clinical mental health programs. TN visa sponsorship is available for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying mental health occupations.
What qualifications does Sun River Health expect for Mental Health roles?
Most Mental Health positions require at minimum a master's degree in social work, counseling, or a related clinical field, along with a New York State license or active licensure candidacy. Roles in psychiatric support may require additional credentials. Experience serving low-income, multilingual, or unhoused populations is frequently listed as a preference given Sun River Health's community health mission.
How do I plan my immigration timeline for a Mental Health role at Sun River Health?
If you're pursuing EB-3 sponsorship, expect the DOL PERM labor certification process to run 12 to 18 months before USCIS receives your petition. Build that lead time into your job search. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT expiration date and whether the role qualifies for a STEM extension before your first interview to avoid gaps in work authorization.
