About us
ABOUT SUN RIVER HEALTH
Sun River Health has a rich history of providing quality, affordable health care to communities in need. Founded in the early 1970s by four African American women in Peekskill, New York, the organization was established to address the lack of accessible health services in their community. With the help of a small federal grant, the first Sun River Health site opened its doors in 1975. Over the years, Sun River Health has grown into a comprehensive Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) system with over 45 locations, serving more than 250,000 patients across the Hudson Valley, New York City and Long Island. Our exceptional primary care practitioners, specialists and support staff are dedicated to delivering high-quality care to all individuals, regardless of their ability to pay. This merger allowed us to enhance our services and continue our mission under the unified name of Sun River Health.

Tips for Finding Physician Jobs at Sun River Health
Verify Your Credentials Match FQHC Standards
Sun River Health operates as a federally qualified health center, so board certification and an unrestricted New York medical license are baseline requirements. Confirm your credentials are fully transferable before applying, as incomplete licensure will stall any sponsorship filing.
Target Roles in Underserved Catchment Areas
Sun River Health's physician openings are concentrated in medically underserved areas across New York, which can support an EB-2 National Interest Waiver petition. Working in a designated shortage area strengthens your NIW case and can reduce reliance on PERM labor certification.
Clarify Sponsorship Type Before Accepting an Offer
Sun River Health sponsors both nonimmigrant and permanent resident pathways, but the specific visa category offered can vary by role and timing. Ask the hiring team during the offer stage whether they intend TN, H-1B, or an EB-2/EB-3 PERM filing so you can plan your timeline accurately.
Account for PERM Processing in Your Start Date
If Sun River Health pursues an EB-3 route, DOL PERM labor certification currently takes six to twelve months before USCIS adjudication begins. Build that window into your start date negotiation so your status doesn't lapse while the petition is pending.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Physician Openings by Visa Type
Sun River Health posts Physician roles across multiple locations simultaneously. Use Migrate Mate to filter active openings by the visa categories the organization sponsors, so you apply only to positions where your specific status is explicitly supported.
Prepare J-1 Waiver Documentation If Applicable
Physicians completing a J-1 visa residency or fellowship face a two-year home residency requirement before H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. Sun River Health's FQHC status can support a Conrad 30 waiver application, but you need a signed employment contract before submitting through the state health department.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Sun River Health sponsor H-1B visas for Physicians?
Sun River Health's sponsorship activity for Physicians is primarily focused on permanent residence pathways such as EB-2 and EB-3, along with nonimmigrant options including TN visa and F-1 OPT. H-1B visa sponsorship is less consistently documented for this role at this organization, so confirm directly with the recruiter during the hiring process which categories are available for the specific position you're targeting.
How do I apply for Physician jobs at Sun River Health?
You can browse and apply for Physician openings at Sun River Health through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles where visa sponsorship is confirmed. Sun River Health typically requires a completed application, CV, proof of board certification, and an active or in-progress New York medical license. The recruitment process usually includes a phone screen, panel interview, and credentialing review before an offer is extended.
Which visa types does Sun River Health commonly use for Physician roles?
Sun River Health has sponsored Physicians through EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa pathways, as well as TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals who qualify under USMCA physician provisions. F-1 OPT is also supported for physicians completing U.S. training programs. The applicable category depends on your nationality, current status, and the specific role's requirements.
What qualifications does Sun River Health expect from Physician candidates?
Sun River Health primarily hires for primary care, internal medicine, and family medicine roles serving high-need patient populations. You'll need a medical degree recognized in the U.S., completion of an accredited residency program, board certification or active pursuit of it, and an unrestricted New York medical license or eligibility to obtain one. Multilingual ability and community health experience are frequently preferred given the patient demographics.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a Physician at Sun River Health?
Timeline depends heavily on the visa route. TN classification for Canadian nationals can be obtained at the border in a single day. EB-2 National Interest Waiver petitions typically take six to eighteen months without premium processing. EB-3 PERM cases add a DOL labor certification phase that runs six to twelve months before the USCIS petition even begins. Plan your current status expiration date against these windows before committing to a start date.
