About Sun River Health
Sun River Health has a rich history of providing quality, affordable health care to communities in need. Founded in the early 1970s by four African American women in Peekskill, New York, the organization was established to address the lack of accessible health services in their community. With the help of a small federal grant, the first Sun River Health site opened its doors in 1975. Over the years, Sun River Health has grown into a comprehensive Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) system with over 45 locations, serving more than 250,000 patients across the Hudson Valley, New York City and Long Island. Our exceptional primary care practitioners, specialists and support staff are dedicated to delivering high-quality care to all individuals, regardless of their ability to pay. In December 2018, Sun River Health expanded its reach by merging with Brightpoint Health, an FQHC network offering integrated medical, behavioral and social support services in New York City. This merger allowed us to enhance our services and continue our mission under the unified name of Sun River Health.

Tips for Finding Medical Doctor Jobs at Sun River Health
Verify your ECFMG certification before applying
Sun River Health requires board-eligible or board-certified physicians. Before outreach, confirm your Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates certification is current and your residency training is accredited by ACGME, as incomplete credentialing stalls any sponsorship conversation before it starts.
Target Sun River Health's underserved site openings
Many of Sun River Health's locations qualify as Health Professional Shortage Areas, which strengthens EB-2 National Interest Waiver eligibility for physicians. Applying to HPSA-designated sites positions you to pursue self-petitioned Green Card pathways alongside employer-sponsored options.
Browse open Medical Doctor roles on Migrate Mate
Sun River Health posts Medical Doctor openings across multiple states. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for roles at Sun River Health that are open to visa sponsorship, so you're applying to live positions rather than cold-contacting HR.
Ask about TN status during the offer stage
Canadian and Mexican physicians can begin work at Sun River Health under TN status while a longer-term Green Card process runs concurrently. Raise this option directly with the hiring manager or HR before signing, as it bypasses H-1B cap timing entirely.
Understand how PERM fits your Green Card timeline
EB-3 sponsorship at a community health employer like Sun River Health typically requires a PERM labor certification filed with DOL. The process can take 18 to 24 months before USCIS even adjudicates the I-140, so factor that into your existing visa status runway.
Prepare a state medical license for your target locations
Sun River Health cannot begin the I-129 filing process for H-1B or TN until you hold a valid medical license in the state where you'll practice. Prioritize licensure applications early, as delays here are the most common bottleneck to a timely start date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Sun River Health sponsor H-1B visas for Medical Doctors?
Sun River Health has sponsored physicians through employer-based immigration pathways including H-1B visa. For Medical Doctors, the process involves Sun River Health filing a petition with USCIS on your behalf, but the H-1B is subject to the annual cap and lottery for most applicants. Physicians completing J-1 visa exchange visitor programs may also need a waiver before an H-1B is viable.
Which visa types are commonly used for Medical Doctor roles at Sun River Health?
Physicians at Sun River Health typically use H-1B, TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), or employment-based Green Cards such as EB-2 or EB-3. Doctors in J-1 status often pursue Conrad 30 waivers, which require a service commitment at an underserved site, a category where many Sun River Health locations qualify.
What qualifications are expected for Medical Doctor positions at Sun River Health?
Sun River Health generally requires an MD or DO degree, completion of an ACGME-accredited residency, ECFMG certification for international medical graduates, and board certification or eligibility in the relevant specialty. Active or pending medical licensure in the state of the posting is also required before an offer can move to the sponsorship stage.
How do I apply for Medical Doctor jobs at Sun River Health?
You can browse and apply for Medical Doctor openings at Sun River Health through Migrate Mate, which lists their current roles and flags which positions are open to visa sponsorship. When applying, specify your visa status clearly in your application materials so the recruitment team can route your file to HR contacts who handle sponsorship approvals.
How do I estimate my timeline from offer to start date as a sponsored physician?
For H-1B, count on at least six to nine months from a signed offer to your start date, accounting for LCA certification with DOL, lottery selection in April, and USCIS adjudication. TN status can be obtained at a port of entry and is faster. Green Card sponsorship runs concurrently but takes considerably longer and should not be factored into your near-term start date planning.
