Founded in the early 1970s by four African American women in Peekskill, New York, the organization was established to address the lack of accessible health services in their community. With the help of a small federal grant, the first Sun River Health site opened its doors in 1975. Over the years, Sun River Health has grown into a comprehensive Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) system with over 45 locations, serving more than 250,000 patients across the Hudson Valley, New York City and Long Island. Our exceptional primary care practitioners, specialists and support staff are dedicated to delivering high-quality care to all individuals, regardless of their ability to pay. In December 2018, Sun River Health expanded its reach by merging with Brightpoint Health, an FQHC network offering integrated medical, behavioral and social support services in New York City. This merger allowed us to enhance our services and continue our mission under the unified name of Sun River Health.

Tips for Finding Healthcare Assistant Jobs at Sun River Health
Certify Your Clinical Credentials Before Applying
Healthcare Assistant roles at Sun River Health require verified clinical training. Have your credentials evaluated through a NACES-approved agency before you apply so hiring managers can confirm equivalency to U.S. standards without delays in the offer stage.
Target Federally Qualified Health Centers Strategically
Sun River Health operates as an FQHC network, which means it receives federal funding tied to staffing obligations. These employers have stronger institutional incentives to sponsor international clinical staff than private practices or for-profit systems.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope During the Offer Stage
Sun River Health has sponsored both F-1 OPT and employment-based Green Card pathways for clinical roles. Ask your recruiter directly which visa types their immigration counsel handles for Healthcare Assistants so you know which path applies to your situation before accepting.
Time Your OPT Application Around USCIS Processing
If you're on F-1 status, USCIS recommends filing your OPT application up to 90 days before your program end date. Starting late compresses your authorized work window and can delay your start date with Sun River Health.
Understand What PERM Requires for This Role
EB-3 sponsorship for Healthcare Assistants requires your employer to complete PERM labor certification through DOL. Sun River Health must advertise the position publicly and document that no qualified U.S. worker was available, so expect this process to extend your overall timeline significantly.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Sun River Health Openings
Healthcare Assistant vacancies at Sun River Health are spread across multiple clinic locations and cycle frequently. Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type so you can identify which positions align with your sponsorship eligibility before reaching out.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Sun River Health sponsor H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistants?
Sun River Health's documented sponsorship activity for Healthcare Assistant roles is concentrated in employment-based Green Card pathways (EB-2 and EB-3) and F-1 OPT or CPT, rather than H-1B visa. Healthcare Assistant positions typically fall under supportive clinical roles that are classified as specialty occupations only in specific circumstances, so confirm directly with the recruiter whether an H-1B pathway is available for the specific role you are applying to.
Which visa types are commonly used for Healthcare Assistant roles at Sun River Health?
Sun River Health has sponsored Healthcare Assistants through F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN visas for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals, and employment-based Green Card categories including EB-2 and EB-3. If you are early in your U.S. work authorization, OPT is the most accessible entry point. TN is a strong option if you hold a qualifying healthcare credential and are a Canadian or Mexican citizen.
What qualifications does Sun River Health expect for Healthcare Assistant roles?
Sun River Health serves federally qualified health center patient populations, so clinical readiness matters more than in typical outpatient settings. Expect requirements around patient-facing experience, proficiency with electronic health records, and in many cases a certified nursing assistant credential, phlebotomy certification, or medical assistant diploma. Roles focused on behavioral health or multilingual communities may carry additional qualification requirements specific to those patient panels.
How do I apply for Healthcare Assistant jobs at Sun River Health?
You can browse and apply for Healthcare Assistant openings at Sun River Health through Migrate Mate, which surfaces sponsorship-eligible roles by visa type so you can filter for positions that match your status. Sun River Health posts roles across its clinic network, and availability shifts frequently, so checking regularly gives you the best chance of catching an opening before it closes.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for Healthcare Assistant roles at Sun River Health?
Timeline depends on the visa pathway. F-1 OPT authorization from USCIS typically takes two to three months, so file as early as your program allows. TN approval can happen at a port of entry in a single day for Canadian citizens. EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM labor certification and I-140 filing routinely takes one to three years before a priority date becomes current, depending on your country of birth.
