Tailor your resume to university administrative roles
University of Colorado administrative positions often require familiarity with academic calendars, faculty support, and grant administration workflows. Highlight experience coordinating schedules, managing records, or supporting research teams to align with how higher education departments actually hire.
Identify which campus is hiring before applying
University of Colorado operates across Boulder, Denver, Colorado Springs, and Anschutz campuses. Each has its own HR office and hiring timelines, so targeting a specific campus lets you research department-level needs and contact the right international hiring coordinator early.
Confirm your visa type fits administrative role filings
Administrative Assistant positions at research universities are commonly supported under H-1B, TN, and J-1 categories. Check that your specific visa type aligns with the role classification before reaching the offer stage, since some administrative functions require a specialty occupation determination from USCIS.
Request OPT or CPT authorization through your DSO early
If you're on F-1 status, your Designated School Official must authorize OPT or CPT before you can start work. Universities typically move faster when candidates arrive with authorization already in progress, so engage your international student office well before any offer deadline.
Ask HR directly about PERM sponsorship timelines
For long-term sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3, PERM labor certification can take well over a year. University HR offices familiar with international hires can tell you whether permanent residency support is available for administrative staff and at what point in employment it typically begins.
Use Migrate Mate to find open administrative roles
Administrative Assistant openings at University of Colorado turn over regularly across departments. Use Migrate Mate to filter for verified sponsorship-eligible roles so you're applying to positions where your visa situation is already accounted for in the hiring process.
