Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Nursing Jobs at University of Minnesota Physicians Jobs
Get your credentials evaluated before applying
Foreign nursing degrees must be evaluated by a CGFNS-accepted organization before Minnesota will issue an RN license. Start this process early because credential evaluation and licensure can take months and employers need proof of eligibility before initiating sponsorship.
Target UMN Physicians specialty clinic postings
University of Minnesota Physicians staffs specialty outpatient clinics across the Twin Cities region. Roles tied to specific departments like oncology, transplant, or neurology tend to reflect structured workforce needs, which makes sponsorship conversations more straightforward than general acute care openings.
Clarify sponsorship scope during initial recruiter contact
Ask the recruiter directly whether the posted role is approved for H-1B sponsorship or if Green Card support through EB-2 or EB-3 is available. Academic medical groups often distinguish between roles based on funding source or department, so confirming early prevents delays later.
Understand the H-1B cap and timing constraints
Cap-subject H-1B filings must be submitted in April for an October 1 start date. If UMN Physicians extends you an offer outside that window, ask whether the role qualifies for a cap-exempt pathway or whether an O-1 bridge is feasible while you wait for the next registration cycle.
Prepare for PERM documentation if pursuing a Green Card
EB-3 sponsorship for nurses typically involves a PERM labor certification filed with the DOL. Your employer will need to document that no qualified U.S. worker was available. Gather employment history, licensure records, and education documents in advance so the process moves without delays on your end.
Use Migrate Mate to find open nursing roles
Filtering for visa-sponsoring healthcare employers manually is time-consuming. Use Migrate Mate to browse current Nursing openings at University of Minnesota Physicians filtered by sponsorship type, so you spend your time on applications rather than researching which postings are actually viable.

Find Nursing at University of Minnesota Physicians JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Minnesota Physicians sponsor H-1B visas for Nursings?
Yes, University of Minnesota Physicians has a documented history of sponsoring H-1B visas for Nursing roles. As an academic medical group affiliated with the University of Minnesota, they have the infrastructure to support the H-1B petition process. Confirm with the recruiter that the specific role you're applying for is approved for sponsorship, since not every opening is automatically eligible.
Which visa types are commonly used for Nursing roles at University of Minnesota Physicians?
H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant visa for Nursing roles at University of Minnesota Physicians, covering specialty occupation positions that require at least a bachelor's degree in nursing. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, EB-3 sponsorship through PERM labor certification is the typical pathway. Some nurses may also be eligible for EB-2 sponsorship depending on their qualifications and the role requirements.
What qualifications are expected for Nursing roles at University of Minnesota Physicians?
Most Nursing roles require an active Minnesota RN license, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and relevant clinical experience in the specialty area of the posted role. Foreign-educated nurses must have their credentials evaluated through a CGFNS-recognized organization before Minnesota licensure is granted. Specialty clinic roles in areas like oncology or transplant may also require or strongly prefer relevant certifications.
How do I apply for Nursing jobs at University of Minnesota Physicians?
You can find and apply for Nursing openings at University of Minnesota Physicians directly through their careers portal, or use Migrate Mate to filter current openings specifically by visa sponsorship type. Before applying, confirm your Minnesota RN license is active or in process, as this is a baseline requirement. Tailoring your application to the specific specialty clinic and patient population the role serves improves your chances of advancing past the initial screen.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Nursing role at University of Minnesota Physicians?
For H-1B sponsorship, your employer files in April and work authorization begins October 1 at the earliest, so plan for a six-month minimum between offer and start date. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship takes considerably longer, often one to three years or more depending on your country of birth and current USCIS and DOL processing times. Starting conversations about sponsorship type early in the hiring process is the most effective way to manage these timelines.
