Athletics
Job Purpose:
Responsible for management and administration of all phases of varsity intercollegiate sport program and team, within the guidelines, rules, and regulations of The University of Scranton, Landmark Conference, and the NCAA.
Essential Duties:
- Schedule and conduct regular practice/training sessions in and out of season with guidelines of departmental policy
- Coach the team during all scheduled events
- Determine and implement the strategies necessary to motivate the team to maximum levels of individual and team performance
- Conduct coach's preparation meetings and coordinate teaching procedures for any members of the coaching staff
- Develop a comprehensive and functional knowledge of the sport while actively seeking new methods and strategies
- With approval of the Director of Athletics, be responsible for the research, selection and training of qualified assistant coaches in accordance with all proper University guidelines
- Direct and manage assistant coaches delegating and prioritizing administrative responsibilities
- Maintain continuing and thorough familiarity with all applicable NCAA, Landmark Conference, and University of Scranton rules and regulations, and be responsible for compliance with all rules and regulations
- Present annual budget requirements to the Director of Athletics and be accountable for expense control compliance and administration of the sports budget
- Scout and recruit quality student athletes and coordinate all recruiting activities with Associate Director of Athletics
- Demonstrate an active interest in the academic progress of student athletes
- Work closely with all appropriate University and Department personnel to assure academic success of student athletes
- Provide individual counseling to student athletes when appropriate and direct the student athletes to professional staff when needed
- Participate in any and organize all fundraising activities after consultation with the Director of Athletics
- Be responsible for all travel arrangements for team: including transportation to the contest site and back to campus as well as to the practice site and back to campus, in accordance with all proper University guidelines
- Provide both a secure environment and appropriate supervision within the designated and approved practice and contest facilities for the student athletes for all practices, competition, and traveling in addition to maintaining appropriate safety standards with all equipment and teaching aids used in all coaching/playing activities of the student-athletes
- Be responsible for management and development of staff, including annual performance evaluation for any and all staff reporting to head coach
- Complete NCAA required rules test
- Be responsible for scheduling of all contests while working closely with the Associate Director of Athletics or assist in both coordination and final approval of those scheduled
Additional Skills Required:
- Attain certification in CPR, First Aid & AED and responsible for recertification as needed on annual basis
- Ability to understand and support the mission statements of the Athletic Department, Student Affairs Division, and the University
- Ability to work and display a cooperative attitude toward all other sports programs and other functions of the University and the Athletic Department
- Ability to develop a positive working arrangement with all support offices both in the department and on campus

Bachelor's degree required

Master's degree preferred

High School and/or Club coaching experience
Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience
