Align your credentials to UTHSC requirements
Health science instructor roles at UTHSC typically require a terminal degree in your clinical or research field. If your degree was earned outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-recognized service before applying.
Target departments with active J-1 exchange programs
UTHSC sponsors J-1 visas for visiting scholars and instructors through its international office. Reaching out directly to department coordinators can reveal openings before they appear on public job boards, particularly in clinical education roles.
Prepare your CV for a U.S. academic format
U.S. academic CVs differ significantly from international formats. UTHSC hiring committees expect a detailed record of teaching appointments, publications, and clinical certifications, not a condensed two-page resume.
Search verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Finding UTHSC instructor openings that explicitly include visa sponsorship saves time when you're on a visa deadline. Use Migrate Mate to filter education sector roles by visa type so you're applying to positions already confirmed for sponsorship.

Applications are submitted through the UTHSC careers portal. Each posting lists the specific department, required qualifications, and whether visa sponsorship is available. You can also browse Migrate Mate to find UTHSC Instructor openings filtered by visa type, which helps if you're prioritizing roles that already confirm sponsorship support before you apply.
Which visa types does UTHSC commonly use for Instructor roles?
UTHSC sponsors H-1B, J-1, TN, and F-1 OPT or CPT for Instructor positions depending on the appointment type and the candidate's background. J-1 is common for visiting faculty and clinical instructors. TN is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying education roles. What qualifications are expected for Instructor roles at UTHSC?
Most Instructor roles at UTHSC require a graduate degree in a health-related discipline, with clinical licensure expected for patient-facing or clinical education appointments. Teaching experience at the university level strengthens your application significantly. Some departments also require board certification or active research output, particularly in medicine, pharmacy, and nursing programs.
How do I understand the visa sponsorship timeline for an Instructor role at UTHSC?
