Responsibilities:
The Academic Advisor, in conjunction with other staff members and administrative personnel, will be responsible for the delivery of quality developmental academic advising to students assigned to College of Humanities, Arts, Sciences, and Education (CHASE).
Primary Duties:
- Advise and develop academic plans for undergraduate students (New, enrolled, reentry, and prospective) pursuing a major and/or minor within the College of Humanities, Arts, Sciences, and Education on the Macomb, online, and Quad Cities campuses.
- Work in partnership with Schools regarding student enrollment issues including: course overloads, enforced pre-requisite, and granting special permissions on restrictions.
- Knowledge of degree requirements with the ability to communicate requirements to students and colleagues.
- Remain cognizant of University and College policies, procedures, requirements, and facilities of the University.
- Act as an intermediary for students with administrative offices and committees such as: Admissions, C.A.G.A.S., Registrar, and others.
- Maintain and keep current academic records on all assigned advisees.
- Coordinate and monitor the GradTrac plan for advisees enrolled in the program.
- Advise students seeking a second baccalaureate degree and process degree plan.
- Serve as a resource regarding the departmental internship process.
- Serve as a resource for the articulation of course(s) from institutions.
- Advise and assist new students with orientation and registration programs.
- Refer students to appropriate University resources when needed.
- Provide preliminary personal and/or career counselling and referral to other University support resources when appropriate.
- Process appropriate substitutions, special permissions and waivers as approved or directed by the Advising Director.
- Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with faculty, students, administration and advisors throughout the university specifically within the College of Humanities, Arts, Sciences, and Education.
- Serve as a resource to assist in the development and refinement of curriculum requirements for the assigned School.
SALARY: $46,452 - $52,140 per year. 12-month, full-time appointment.
