Tailor your credentials to nuclear standards
Westinghouse prioritizes engineers familiar with IEEE standards and NRC regulatory frameworks. Before applying, make sure your resume reflects any experience with safety-related electrical systems, design basis documentation, or nuclear quality assurance programs like 10 CFR 50 Appendix B.
Target Westinghouse's nuclear site postings directly
Westinghouse staffs Electrical Project Engineers at specific plant sites and corporate engineering hubs. Search for postings tied to AP1000 reactor projects or existing plant support contracts, as these positions have the most consistent hiring activity and the clearest sponsorship precedent.
Confirm OPT and CPT eligibility before your interview
Westinghouse has sponsored F-1 OPT and CPT candidates for engineering roles. If you're on OPT, calculate your authorization end date against a realistic start date and flag STEM OPT extension eligibility to your recruiter early so the timeline doesn't create last-minute friction.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type
Westinghouse posts Electrical Project Engineer roles across multiple locations at different sponsorship thresholds. Use Migrate Mate to filter openings specifically by the visa type you need, so you're targeting positions where sponsorship has already been confirmed rather than guessing from the job description.
Address security clearance requirements proactively
Some Westinghouse Electrical Project Engineer roles require or strongly prefer candidates eligible for DOE security clearance. Non-citizens can obtain certain clearance levels, but the process adds time to onboarding. Ask your recruiter about clearance requirements before accepting an offer to avoid post-offer delays.
Understand the H-1B cap timing relative to your offer
If you need an H-1B, USCIS only accepts cap-subject petitions in April for an October 1 start date. If Westinghouse extends an offer outside that window, clarify whether you'll bridge on OPT or another status, so both you and your hiring manager have aligned expectations on your actual start date.

Find Electrical Project Engineer at Westinghouse Electric Company JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Westinghouse Electric Company sponsor H-1B visas for Electrical Project Engineers?
Yes, Westinghouse Electric Company sponsors H-1B visas for Electrical Project Engineers. The company operates in a highly specialized industry where qualified engineering talent is competitive, and international candidates with relevant experience in nuclear or power systems infrastructure are considered for sponsorship. Confirm sponsorship availability for a specific role directly with the Westinghouse recruiter during your first conversation.
How do I apply for Electrical Project Engineer jobs at Westinghouse Electric Company?
You can apply through Westinghouse's careers portal or browse current openings filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate. When applying, highlight experience relevant to nuclear plant electrical systems, IEEE compliance, or DOE project environments. Flag your visa status early in the process so the recruiter can confirm sponsorship availability for that specific requisition before advancing your application.
Which visa types does Westinghouse Electric Company commonly use for Electrical Project Engineer roles?
Westinghouse sponsors H-1B, TN, J-1, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT visas for engineering positions. For Canadian and Mexican nationals, the TN visa is a faster path since it doesn't require USCIS lottery selection. F-1 candidates on STEM OPT have up to three years of work authorization, giving Westinghouse a longer runway to file for H-1B sponsorship.
What qualifications does Westinghouse Electric Company expect for Electrical Project Engineer candidates?
Westinghouse typically expects a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or a closely related field. Practical experience with power distribution systems, relay protection, or nuclear plant electrical design strengthens your application significantly. Familiarity with IEEE standards, NRC regulatory requirements, and engineering documentation processes is frequently referenced in Westinghouse job postings for this role.
How do I plan my timeline for visa sponsorship when joining Westinghouse Electric Company?
Timeline depends on your current status. F-1 OPT candidates can start within their existing authorization period while the company initiates H-1B sponsorship for the next cap cycle. TN visa holders can transfer status relatively quickly. For cap-subject H-1B candidates, USCIS processing means an April lottery registration and October 1 start date, so factor at least six months of lead time into your planning.
