Align your credentials to U.S. engineering standards
GHD's Electrical Project Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator before applying so your qualifications read clearly to a U.S. hiring manager.
Target GHD's power and utilities project teams
GHD staffs Electrical Project Engineers across energy, water, and transport infrastructure verticals. Roles tied to power systems, substations, or renewable energy projects in these divisions tend to have the most active hiring, so tailor your application to match those specific practice areas.
Confirm your visa category fits GHD's filing patterns
GHD sponsors across several visa categories including F-1 OPT, TN, and employment-based Green Card pathways. If you're on OPT, confirm your graduation date leaves enough runway for GHD to assess your fit before your authorized period ends, since the PERM and immigrant visa process takes time.
Clarify sponsorship scope during the offer stage
Consulting firms often distinguish between sponsoring OPT extensions and long-term immigrant visa support. Ask your GHD recruiter explicitly whether the role includes Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 PERM, not just temporary work authorization, before signing an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to filter GHD's open roles by visa type
GHD lists Electrical Project Engineer openings across multiple U.S. locations. Use Migrate Mate to filter current GHD postings by the visa categories they support so you're only spending time on roles that match your specific authorization situation.
Prepare a project portfolio that reflects GHD's client work
GHD's interview process for engineering roles is technically detailed. Prepare examples of electrical design work on infrastructure or utilities projects, including scope, your specific contribution, and outcomes. Interviewers assess whether your experience translates directly to their client-facing project delivery model.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does GHD sponsor H-1B visas for Electrical Project Engineers?
GHD's sponsorship history for Electrical Project Engineers covers employment-based visa categories, but H-1B visa sponsorship depends on the specific role, location, and business need at the time of hiring. Because H-1B selection involves an annual lottery administered by USCIS, GHD's ability to sponsor isn't a guarantee of selection. Roles filled through F-1 OPT or TN visa status are often more immediately actionable for candidates already in the U.S.
How do I apply for Electrical Project Engineer jobs at GHD?
You can browse current Electrical Project Engineer openings at GHD through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles filtered by visa sponsorship type so you can identify positions aligned to your authorization status. GHD's application process typically involves an online application, a recruiter screening call, and one or more technical interviews focused on your project experience and engineering design background.
Which visa types does GHD commonly use for Electrical Project Engineers?
GHD has sponsored Electrical Project Engineers across F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, J-1 visa, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. TN is available only to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. F-1 OPT is common for recent graduates, while EB-2 and EB-3 through PERM are used for longer-term permanent residence sponsorship.
What qualifications does GHD expect for Electrical Project Engineer roles?
GHD typically looks for a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and relevant project experience in power systems, substation design, or infrastructure. For mid-level roles, several years of consulting or utilities project delivery experience is expected. PE licensure is valued but not always required at the entry level. GHD operates across large infrastructure programs, so experience working in a multi-discipline project environment is a strong differentiator.
How do timelines work when GHD sponsors an Electrical Project Engineer for a Green Card?
GHD's Green Card sponsorship for Electrical Project Engineers typically follows the PERM labor certification process administered by DOL, which can take 12 to 18 months before USCIS even receives an immigrant petition. For EB-3 filers from India, the priority date backlog adds significant wait time beyond that. Starting this process while on valid work authorization, such as OPT or TN status, gives you the most flexibility.
