Align your credentials to nuclear software standards
Westinghouse operates in a heavily regulated industry where software roles often require familiarity with safety-critical systems. Highlight experience with embedded systems, real-time software, or compliance-driven development environments to stand out from general software candidates.
Target roles requiring security clearance eligibility
Many Westinghouse Senior Software Engineering positions involve government contracts and require U.S. work authorization that supports security clearance processing. Confirm your visa type is compatible before applying, since certain statuses create complications during the clearance vetting process.
Find open roles through Migrate Mate
Westinghouse posts Senior Software Engineering roles with sponsorship availability that can be hard to filter elsewhere. Use Migrate Mate to browse current openings at Westinghouse verified for visa sponsorship, so you are not applying blind to roles that may not support your status.
Ask recruiters about internal transfer pathways
Westinghouse has global operations, and candidates already working for affiliated entities may qualify for an L-1 visa intracompany transfer rather than H-1B sponsorship. If you have prior employment with a Westinghouse subsidiary abroad, raise this with your recruiter before the offer stage.
Time your application around H-1B cap deadlines
If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, USCIS registration opens in early March each year for an October 1 start date. Coordinate your offer timeline with the recruiter so your I-129 petition is filed within the filing window after a successful lottery selection.
Verify your LCA wage tier matches the posted role level
DOL requires Westinghouse to file a Labor Condition Application certifying your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for a Senior Software Engineer in the specific work location. Request the LCA wage level from HR and confirm it matches before signing your offer letter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Westinghouse Electric Company sponsor H-1B visas for Senior Software Engineers?
Yes, Westinghouse Electric Company sponsors H-1B visas for Senior Software Engineering roles. Given the specialized nature of software development in nuclear energy, qualified candidates in this function are among those the company supports for sponsorship. Cap-subject candidates should coordinate offer timing with USCIS's annual H-1B registration window, which opens in early March.
How do I apply for Senior Software Engineering jobs at Westinghouse Electric Company?
Applications go through Westinghouse's careers portal, where Senior Software Engineering roles are listed by location and business unit. You can also find current openings with confirmed visa sponsorship through Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for roles open to international candidates. Tailor your resume to safety-critical or compliance-driven software experience, as these are common requirements in Westinghouse's engineering division.
Which visa types does Westinghouse Electric Company commonly use for Senior Software Engineering hires?
Westinghouse sponsors H-1B visas as the primary work authorization path for Senior Software Engineers. The company also accepts F-1 OPT and F-1 CPT for eligible candidates earlier in their careers, and TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying specialty occupations. J-1 visa sponsorship has also been used for exchange visitor arrangements in technical roles.
What qualifications does Westinghouse Electric Company expect for Senior Software Engineering roles?
Senior Software Engineering roles at Westinghouse typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Industry experience with regulated or safety-critical systems is a common differentiator, along with proficiency in relevant programming languages and software development lifecycle practices. Some roles supporting government contracts may also require eligibility for a U.S. security clearance.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Senior Software Engineering offer at Westinghouse?
Timeline depends on your visa type and current status. For H-1B sponsorship, the process runs through USCIS's annual lottery in March, with work authorization starting October 1 at the earliest. Premium processing reduces the petition adjudication window to roughly 15 business days once filed. F-1 OPT candidates can often start sooner if their OPT authorization is already active when the offer is extended.
