Princeton Construction is seeking a detail-oriented Estimator with 5+ years of commercial construction experience to join our team. The Estimator provides proactive cost estimating on single or multiple commercial projects, from quantity takeoffs and pricing through bidder solicitation, bidding, and getting the project contracted and started. Because every project is unique, the Estimator uses creativity in the takeoff and presentation to ensure a complete and accurate estimate. This role is crucial to making sure projects are completed within budget while maintaining high-quality standards, and to representing the company in line with Princeton's corporate values.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides all estimating and pricing on assigned projects, including conceptual, schematic, design development, and bid estimates
- Completes estimates on time so the project team can review them and make recommendations or adjustments
- Ensures accurate estimates through research, historical cost data from comparable projects, and escalation as required
- Estimates general conditions, general requirements, and self-performed concrete work, including demolition, earthwork, crane needs, ready-mix adjustments, steel embeds, and rough carpentry
- Includes taxes, insurance, bonds, special wage rates, productivity, and fees and permits where applicable
- Develops a rough draft schedule to support estimate pricing and general conditions
- Submits RFIs to architects and owners to resolve conflicts, gaps, and unclear items in the plans and specifications
- Solicits and prequalifies bidders, and serves as bid captain as requested: taking bids, analyzing and leveling bid packages, and assembling and submitting the final bid
- Presents estimates and all required breakouts to the owner in a clean, clear format
- Uses Princeton's estimating software and ensures estimates are properly coded
- Assists the project manager and job cost accountant with setting up the job cost report, subcontracting the project, and project start-up
- Attends pre-bid, estimating, and project review meetings as requested
- Maintains a strict level of confidentiality on all project financials, including estimates, bids, contract amounts, change orders, costs, and fees
- Markets the company to the owner and design team, and works with business development on future opportunities
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of commercial construction estimating experience
- Strong knowledge of cost estimating practices, including quantity takeoffs, labor unit hours, labor rate analysis, and material unit pricing
- Knowledge of architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
- Able to analyze bids and cost proposals, including labor rates, fringe benefits, overhead, and profit
- Able to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules
- Knowledge of value engineering and life cycle costing
- Able to manage multiple projects at once and meet deadlines
- Works well with management, coworkers, subcontractors, vendors, and architects/engineers
- Proficient in estimating software, Excel, Word, and Outlook

- Experience estimating self-performed concrete
- Experience with takeoff software (On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, or similar)
