COO Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a coo job in Boston?
Boston coo roles cluster in life sciences, fintech, and enterprise technology, so candidates with operational leadership experience in those sectors have the clearest path in. Companies concentrated in the Seaport, Longwood Medical Area, and Back Bay hire most actively. A record of scaling teams, managing P&L, and partnering with a CEO carries more weight here than credentials alone, particularly in the city's dense startup and growth-stage company ecosystem.
Which companies hire coos in Boston?
Employers hiring coos in Boston right now include Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Whoop, and Vertex Pharmaceuticals, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's hiring base is a mix of large healthcare and financial institutions, venture-backed biotech firms, and maturing technology companies, all of which regularly seek experienced operational leaders.
Are there remote coo jobs in Boston?
Yes, though coo roles are less remote-friendly than most, since the position typically requires close coordination with leadership, staff, and physical operations. About 32% of coo openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, skewing toward hybrid arrangements rather than fully remote. Strategy, reporting, and investor relations duties are the functions most commonly handled off-site in Boston-based coo roles.
How can I get a coo job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a director of operations or VP of operations role at a Boston-area growth-stage startup, where the step up to coo happens faster than at larger firms. Seaport and Cambridge-based technology and biotech startups regularly promote from within as they scale. Building familiarity with metrics-driven operations and cross-functional project leadership while in a senior director role positions you well for the transition locally.
Which industries hire the most coos in Boston?
Boston coo roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Science & Research, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's density of research hospitals, asset managers, and venture-funded technology companies makes those sectors the primary drivers of executive operational hiring in the city.
