Procurement Manager Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a procurement manager in Massachusetts?
Most procurement manager roles in Massachusetts require a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, or engineering, followed by several years in a buyer or analyst role. Massachusetts does not issue a state-specific procurement license, but professional credentials like the CPSM from the Institute for Supply Management carry significant weight with local employers in defense, healthcare, and higher education. Gaining experience in a major Massachusetts industry such as life sciences or aerospace accelerates advancement.
How much do procurement managers make in Massachusetts?
Procurement managers in Massachusetts earn a median of about $170,750 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $105,500 for the lowest 10% to over $266,990 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire procurement managers in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring procurement managers in Massachusetts right now include Waters, Amazon, and Insulet Corporation, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of defense contractors, academic medical centers, and biopharmaceutical firms means procurement roles here tend to require specialized category expertise rather than generalist purchasing backgrounds.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most procurement manager jobs?
Boston, Waltham, and Acton have the most procurement manager openings in Massachusetts. Boston and Cambridge drive volume through their dense clusters of hospitals, universities, and technology companies, while Worcester's manufacturing base and UMass Memorial Health system sustain steady demand outside the primary metro.
Are there remote procurement manager jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 77% of procurement manager openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the role centers on contract review, supplier communications, and data analysis that travels well outside the office. Strategic sourcing and contract administration positions tend to be the most flexible, while roles requiring on-site supplier audits or warehouse coordination remain largely in-person.
How can I get hired as a procurement manager in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a procurement analyst or junior buyer role, which large Massachusetts employers in healthcare and defense use as a structured feeder track. Mass General Brigham and the UMass system regularly bring on supply chain coordinators and contracting assistants without management experience. Candidates moving laterally from operations, project coordination, or finance often break in quickly. Earning the CPSM or completing a supply chain certificate through Northeastern or UMass Amherst adds a measurable credential edge.
Where can I find and apply to procurement manager jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to procurement manager jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current Massachusetts openings across industries including defense, life sciences, healthcare, and higher education. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to each one.
