Procurement Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a procurement manager in California?
Most California employers expect a bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, or a related field alongside several years of hands-on sourcing or contract management experience. California does not require a state-issued license to work as a procurement manager, but professional credentials such as the CPSM from the Institute for Supply Management or the CSCP from APICS are widely recognized by California employers and can accelerate career advancement into management roles.
How much do procurement managers make in California?
Procurement managers in California earn a median of about $159,830 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $99,560 for the lowest 10% to over $241,340 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire procurement managers in California?
Employers hiring procurement managers in California right now include Amazon, Apple, and Meta, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of aerospace, technology, and healthcare employers means procurement roles here often require category expertise in complex, regulated supply chains.
Which California cities have the most procurement manager jobs?
San Francisco, San Jose, and Sunnyvale account for the largest concentration of procurement manager openings in California. Los Angeles and San Diego draw heavily from aerospace, defense, and healthcare employers, while San Jose sits at the center of Silicon Valley's technology supply chains, which explains why even mid-size cities in the Bay Area generate consistent procurement hiring activity.
Are there remote procurement manager jobs in California?
Yes, and more than many comparable management roles. About 11% of procurement manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves vendor negotiations, contract review, and data analysis that can be done without being on-site. Supplier audits, warehouse evaluations, and on-boarding new vendors often still require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a procurement manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a purchasing coordinator or junior buyer role, which large California employers in healthcare, defense contracting, and retail operations post regularly. Institutions such as Kaiser Permanente and county government agencies across Los Angeles and the Bay Area frequently bring in candidates through associate procurement or contract specialist positions. Earning an entry-level APICS CSCP certification and building Excel or ERP system skills gives candidates a meaningful edge when competing for those openings.
