Data Operations Manager Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data operations manager in Massachusetts?
Most data operations managers in Massachusetts enter the role through a combination of a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or a related technical field and several years of hands-on experience in data engineering, analytics, or operations. Massachusetts employers, particularly in life sciences and financial services, favor candidates who have progressed through data analyst or data engineer roles before moving into management. There is no state-issued license required for this role in Massachusetts, but industry credentials in cloud platforms or data governance carry real weight.
How much do data operations managers make in Massachusetts?
Data operations managers in Massachusetts earn a median of about $214,960 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $134,390 for the lowest 10% to over $308,250 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data operations managers in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring data operations managers in Massachusetts right now include State Street, Zoox, and FieldAI, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of life sciences firms, regional banks, and large academic medical centers means consistent demand for data operations leadership across both the private and nonprofit sectors.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most data operations manager jobs?
The cities with the most data operations manager openings in Massachusetts are Boston, Quincy, and Cambridge. Greater Boston and Cambridge drive the largest share of listings because of the dense cluster of biotech companies, financial institutions, and research hospitals headquartered there, while Worcester's growing healthcare and higher education employers account for a meaningful portion of openings outside the immediate metro.
Are there remote data operations manager jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than most fields. Data operations management is largely a desk and systems-based role, which makes it well-suited to remote or hybrid arrangements. About 56% of data operations manager openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how broadly Massachusetts employers have adopted flexible work for analytical and technical leadership roles. The portions of the role involving stakeholder meetings and team oversight are most commonly handled remotely, while on-site presence is sometimes required for regulated industries like healthcare.
How can I get hired as a data operations manager in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a data analyst or junior data engineer role at a Massachusetts employer, then building toward management over two to three years. Large employers such as Massachusetts General Hospital, Fidelity Investments, and the University of Massachusetts system offer rotational or associate-level data programs that give early-career candidates exposure to operations workflows. Moving into a team lead or data coordinator title first is a common stepping stone. Earning a cloud platform certification or completing a data governance course strengthens a less-experienced candidate's profile considerably.
Where can I find and apply to data operations manager jobs in Massachusetts?
