Learning and Development Manager
Purpose:
The Learning & Development Manager (LDM) drives organizational performance, professionalism, and customer experience by designing and delivering training programs focused on leadership, presentation excellence, and service standards. This role builds a consistent training framework, ensures accountability, and aligns development initiatives with business priorities through assessments, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Training Strategy & Program Development
- Design, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive training programs aligned with organizational goals
- Develop and deliver training programs related, but not limited to the following:
- Presentation skills and communication excellence
- Leadership development and people management fundamentals
- First impression excellence and customer experience behaviors
- Create engaging, practical, and construction industry–relevant training content that resonates with field teams, office teams, and leadership
- Develop scalable and repeatable training frameworks to ensure consistency across departments
- Create bite-sized, high-impact learning collateral (e.g., quick reference guides, videos, toolkits) to support self-directed learning among team members
- Utilize DiSC and Predictive Index tools to design tailored learning programs that enhance self-awareness, team effectiveness, and leadership capability within a construction environment
Training Delivery & Facilitation
- Facilitate high-impact, interactive training sessions for leaders, managers, and employees
- Adapt delivery methods to meet the needs of field staff, office personnel, and leadership audiences
- Partner with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to co-develop and deliver specialized training content
- Ensure consistency and quality in training delivery across all teams and locations
- Coach managers on effective training delivery, reinforcement, and implement accountability practices
Project Interview Strategy & Preparation
- Develop and maintain a structured, repeatable project interview framework that equips teams with the tools, messaging, and preparation strategies needed to effectively communicate RJM's value proposition, project approach, and differentiators to prospective clients.
- Coach project pursuit teams and interview participants to strengthen presentation delivery, storytelling, team dynamics, communication effectiveness, and overall confidence in high-stakes client interviews.
- Design and facilitate a formal win/loss review process to capture lessons learned, identify best practices, evaluate team performance, and continuously improve interview strategies and outcomes.
- Establish and manage a consistent feedback system that provides constructive coaching, performance insights, and actionable recommendations following project interviews to support ongoing professional development and increased interview effectiveness.
Performance Improvement & Evaluation
- Conduct training needs assessments to identify skill gaps and development opportunities
- Evaluate training effectiveness through feedback, observation, and performance data
- Provide direct, actionable feedback to trainers and participants to improve outcomes
- Implement continuous improvement strategies to refine training programs and delivery methods
Process Improvement & Operational Alignment
- Analyze workflows and processes to ensure training reflects real-world operational needs
- Lead process mapping initiatives to standardize best practices and improve efficiency
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment between training, operations, and business goals
- Ensure training programs reinforce consistency, quality, safety, and customer experience standards
Culture & Behavioral Standards
- Develop and implement behavioral competency models that clearly define the communication, leadership, collaboration, professionalism, and customer experience behaviors expected across all levels of the organization.
- Partner with leadership to embed RJM's FOCUS philosophy into training programs, leadership development initiatives, performance expectations, employee recognition efforts, and day-to-day workplace behaviors.
- Design and support programs, initiatives, and learning experiences that reinforce RJM's values, strengthen organizational culture, and promote consistent behaviors aligned with the company's mission and strategic objectives.
- Develop recognition programs and feedback mechanisms that celebrate employees and teams who exemplify RJM's values, leadership principles, customer experience standards, and commitment to excellence.
- Capture, develop, and share meaningful employee, project, and client success stories that demonstrate RJM's values in action, reinforce desired behaviors, and strengthen employee engagement and organizational pride.
Leadership Development & Coaching
- Design and support leadership development programs for all levels of management
- Coach leaders to strengthen accountability, communication, and team performance
- Reinforce expectations for leadership ownership of training and employee development
- Support succession planning and internal talent growth initiatives
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with department leaders to align training priorities with operational and strategic goals
- Act as a trusted advisor in cooperation with HR best practices on employee development, training effectiveness, and performance improvement
- Facilitate cross-department collaboration to promote consistency and shared standards
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, professionalism, and accountability
Education & Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Development, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in learning & development, training, or organizational development
- Experience developing training programs within construction, manufacturing, or field based environments preferred
- Interior design education/experience preferred
Professional Certifications or Licenses:
- 7+ years individual and/or group coaching experience
- PCC Certification or higher
- Certification or experience with DiSC, Predictive Index, or similar behavioral assessment tools strongly preferred
Demonstrated Technical Competencies to include:
- Demonstrated presentation, facilitation, and curriculum development skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles and behavior based training methods
- Strong coaching, communication, and influencing skills
- Experience integrating behavioral assessment tools into development programs
- Ability to translate operational needs into practical, actionable learning methods
- Ability to create engaging content for diverse audiences (field, office, leadership, Owners)
- Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills
- Experience coaching managers and influencing cross functional teams
- Process mapping and continuous improvement methodologies
