County Attorney Jobs in Wyoming: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a county attorney in Wyoming?
To become a county attorney in Wyoming, you must earn a Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and pass the Wyoming State Bar Examination administered by the Wyoming State Bar. After admission, most candidates apply directly to county government offices or the Wyoming Attorney General's Office. Many counties also accept attorneys who transfer their license from another state through the Wyoming State Bar's admission on motion process, provided they meet practice requirements.
Which companies hire county attorneys in Wyoming?
Companies currently hiring county attorneys in Wyoming include Volunteers of America, Cody Regional Health, and University of Wyoming, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Wyoming's largest hiring volume comes from county government offices and state agencies, with Laramie, Natrona, and Campbell counties among the most consistent employers.
Which Wyoming cities have the most county attorney jobs?
Cody, Powell, and Buffalo have the most county attorney openings in Wyoming. Cheyenne leads as the state capital and home to the largest concentration of state agencies and Laramie County government, while Casper's size and Natrona County's active legal department drive demand there, and Laramie benefits from proximity to the University of Wyoming and Albany County government.
Are there remote county attorney jobs in Wyoming?
Yes, but they're rare. County attorney work is heavily court- and client-facing, which limits full-remote arrangements. About 0% of county attorney openings tied to Wyoming are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those roles tend to involve legal research, document review, or policy work rather than courtroom representation or in-person county counsel duties.
How can I get hired as a county attorney in Wyoming with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a deputy county attorney or assistant county attorney position, which Wyoming counties such as Laramie County and Natrona County post regularly for new or recent bar admittees. Clerkships with Wyoming district or circuit courts build credibility quickly. Adjacent roles like public defender, legal aid attorney, or staff attorney at state agencies provide transferable courtroom and drafting experience that Wyoming county offices value when evaluating candidates without direct prosecution or civil litigation backgrounds.
Where can I find and apply to county attorney jobs in Wyoming?
You can find and apply to county attorney jobs in Wyoming on Migrate Mate, which lists current Wyoming openings. Search for roles that match your experience level and practice area, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
