You need three things in place before day one: a CPT-endorsed I-20 from your DSO, a valid offer letter matching the dates on your I-20, and a completed Form I-9 with your employer. Your employer uses the I-20 and EAD-equivalent documentation to verify your authorization. Don't assume HR knows the CPT process; bring your I-20 and be prepared to explain that CPT is your work authorization category.
