Does a Continuous Improvement Manager role qualify for CPT?
It can, but your DSO must determine that the work is an integral part of your curriculum, not just tangentially related to your major. Roles with direct ties to industrial engineering, operations management, supply chain, or business analytics degrees are the clearest fit. Bring the offer letter and a written explanation of how the duties connect to your program's learning outcomes to your CPT authorization meeting.
Can I do full-time CPT as a Continuous Improvement Manager without affecting my OPT?
Full-time CPT of one year or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely, per USCIS regulations. If your program requires a full-time internship, confirm with your DSO whether the CPT will be counted in full-time terms. Many students in operations-focused programs structure CPT as part-time or limit it to one semester to preserve OPT for post-graduation employment.
What academic program typically supports CPT for this role?
Industrial engineering, operations management, supply chain management, and MBA programs with a quantitative focus are the strongest matches for Continuous Improvement Manager CPT. The work must tie to specific courses or thesis requirements in your plan of study. Programs in data analytics or systems engineering can also qualify if the job description emphasizes process analysis and metrics.
How do I find employers who are familiar with F-1 work authorization for this role?
Search Migrate Mate for Continuous Improvement Manager openings filtered by employers with LCA filing history. Employers who have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for similar roles already understand the documentation requirements for F-1 students and are less likely to withdraw an offer when you explain your CPT authorization process.
Will CPT experience as a Continuous Improvement Manager count toward H-1B specialty occupation?
CPT work experience can strengthen an H-1B visa petition if the duties align with the specialty occupation definition, meaning the role required at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Document your projects, tools used, and measurable outcomes during CPT. USCIS will evaluate whether the CPT role and the H-1B role are consistent when assessing specialty occupation.
