Can a Group Account Director role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your degree program includes coursework in marketing strategy, client management, integrated communications, or business leadership that directly maps to the role's responsibilities. Your DSO evaluates the curriculum connection, not the seniority of the title. Senior roles with strategic and operational scope often qualify cleanly when the academic alignment is documented clearly in the authorization request.
Does full-time CPT as a Group Account Director eliminate my OPT?
It does if your full-time CPT authorization accumulates to 12 months or more. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours per week or fewer, doesn't affect OPT eligibility regardless of duration. If your employer needs you full-time and you're planning to use OPT after graduation, discuss a part-time CPT structure or a phased start with your DSO before signing the offer.
What should the offer letter include for CPT authorization?
Your DSO needs the employer's legal name, your exact job title, the start and end dates of the position, weekly hours, whether the work is on-site or remote, and the worksite address. For Group Account Director roles, the letter should also describe the scope of responsibilities so the DSO can confirm curriculum alignment. Missing any of these delays authorization and can push your start date.
How do I find Group Account Director roles that support CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate to identify employers with a history of hiring F-1 students in account management and client services. Not every agency lists CPT explicitly in job postings, but employers with existing F-1 infrastructure are significantly more likely to process the paperwork correctly and on time, which matters at the director level where onboarding timelines are tight.
Can I work remotely as a Group Account Director on CPT?
Remote work on CPT is generally permissible, but your SEVIS record must reflect your current U.S. address and your DSO must authorize the remote worksite. If the employer's office and your worksite are in different states, confirm with your DSO whether a new authorization is required. Some schools treat a change in worksite location as a material change requiring an updated CPT authorization on your I-20.
