The Industrial Engineering position focuses on optimizing the interconnected components of a manufacturing system (e.g., personnel workflow/ergonomics, materials logistics, production process sequence, and equipment layouts, etc.).
An Industrial Engineering Co-op position applies broad theoretical job knowledge typically obtained through advanced education and must be able to explain facts, policies and practices related to the job area.
Responsibilities
Industrial Engineering co-ops typically:
- Work on problems of limited scope and contributes on projects or processes while receiving detailed instructions from higher level professionals
- Establish methods of maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel
- Conduct cost/inventory/production control and human factors studies to develop and implement plans for facility modifications and revisions to operating methods
- Assist manufacturing plant/facilities engineers with facility planning and design
You will also get to:
- Apply interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with fellow teammates and achieve common goals
- Work in a hands-on environment with cross functional teams
- Utilize project management skills to develop, manage, and control scope, schedule and cost

Minimum Qualifications

- To be pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering or another applicable major and actively enrolled in an accredited university
- To be sophomore-senior level standing with a GPA of at least 3.0
- Completed course work in Computer Aided Design (CAD)/AutoCAD
- To be available to work 40 hours weekly in a 6-month minimum co-op assignment
- No other work experience is required. We will teach you everything you need to know!

Can I do full-time CPT as an Industrial Engineer student?
You can, but full-time CPT used for 12 or more cumulative months cancels your OPT eligibility under USCIS rules. Many IE students use part-time CPT during the semester and switch to full-time during summer to preserve OPT. Talk to your DSO before committing to a full-year full-time placement.
