What You’ll Do
As the Associate Marketing Director for the Vox Media Podcast Network, you’ll lead the launch strategy for new shows, explore new tactics and channels for audience growth, and help improve our marketing processes to make our marketing team more effective. This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on execution, using data, experimentation, and strong creative instincts to create long-term growth. This role requires close partnership with show hosts, producers, and teams across Editorial, Communications, and Engagement. You’ll serve as a senior marketing lead who can align stakeholders around clear growth priorities, strengthen cross-promotion across the network, and bring an audience-centered, data-informed perspective to our business. Does a Marketing Associate role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the position directly integrates with your enrolled curriculum. Marketing Associate roles involving campaign management, market research, brand analytics, or digital marketing strategy qualify for students in marketing, business, or communications programs. Roles limited to clerical or administrative tasks without a marketing function are harder to justify to your DSO, so review the job description carefully before requesting authorization.
Can I do part-time CPT as a Marketing Associate while finishing my degree?
Yes. Part-time CPT is defined as 20 hours per week or fewer and doesn't affect your OPT eligibility, regardless of how many semesters you use it. Full-time CPT, which is more than 20 hours per week, counts against OPT if you use it for 12 months or more cumulatively. Most Marketing Associate internships are structured as part-time CPT to preserve post-graduation OPT.
How do I find Marketing Associate employers who understand F-1 CPT authorization?
Migrate Mate lists Marketing Associate roles at employers with documented international hiring history, which reduces the friction of explaining CPT to a recruiter unfamiliar with F-1 authorization. Employers who have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for marketing roles are generally faster to process paperwork and less likely to rescind offers over work authorization questions.
What happens if my CPT end date doesn't align with the employer's internship timeline?
You can request a CPT extension from your DSO before the current authorization expires, provided you're still enrolled and the work continues to satisfy your academic requirements. You cannot work past your authorized CPT end date, so coordinate with your DSO at least two weeks before the expiration to avoid a gap. Employers familiar with F-1 students typically accommodate this process with minimal friction.
Does completing a Marketing Associate CPT role count toward degree credit?
CPT must be an integral part of your curriculum, but it doesn't always require credit hours. Some programs require enrollment in a co-op or practicum course that awards credit; others require only that the work aligns with your degree program without formal credit. Check your school's CPT policy, since the credit requirement varies by institution and can affect how your DSO documents the authorization on your I-20.
