Get Access To All JobsBusiness Development Manager CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Business Development Manager role qualify for CPT?
It qualifies if your school's DSO determines the position is an integral part of your enrolled degree program. For business, management, or MBA students, BD Manager duties like market research, client acquisition, and revenue strategy typically map well to coursework. The key is documenting that connection in your CPT request, not the job title itself.
Can I work as a Business Development Manager on part-time CPT?
Yes. Part-time CPT authorizes up to 20 hours per week and doesn't affect your OPT eligibility, since only full-time CPT used for 12 or more months eliminates OPT. Many BD Manager internships run part-time during the academic year, making this a practical option for students who want to stay enrolled full-time while gaining work experience.
How do I find Business Development Manager jobs where employers understand CPT?
Search Migrate Mate for Business Development Manager roles at companies with active sponsorship histories. Employers who have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for similar roles are more likely to have HR and legal teams that know how to process CPT paperwork without delays or last-minute objections to your authorization status.
What does the O*NET profile say about Business Development Manager qualifications?
O*NET classifies business development roles under Sales Managers and related management occupations, noting that most positions require a bachelor's degree and several years of sales or marketing experience. For CPT purposes, your DSO will look at whether your degree program in business, marketing, or a related field directly supports the analytical and strategic responsibilities listed in the job description.
Will full-time CPT as a Business Development Manager affect my OPT eligibility?
Full-time CPT used for 12 months or more eliminates OPT eligibility entirely, per USCIS regulations. If you plan to pursue OPT after graduation, track your full-time CPT hours carefully across all employers and semesters. Part-time CPT does not count toward this threshold, so structuring a longer engagement as part-time can protect your post-graduation work authorization options.
