Get Access To All JobsBusiness Account Executive CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Business Account Executive role qualify for CPT?
It qualifies if the position connects directly to your degree's curriculum and your school authorizes it. Business, marketing, communications, and MBA programs most commonly support CPT for this role. The DSO reviews both the job description and your academic plan to confirm the connection before issuing authorization. A generic sales role without clear academic linkage may not qualify.
Can I do CPT for a Business Account Executive role while taking classes?
Yes, part-time CPT runs alongside your coursework. Many F-1 students in business programs complete part-time CPT in account executive roles during the semester, then move to full-time CPT over summer. Track cumulative full-time CPT hours carefully: reaching 12 months eliminates your OPT eligibility, which affects your post-graduation work authorization options.
How do I find Business Account Executive employers open to CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate for Business Account Executive listings where employers have a history of filing work authorization paperwork. Mid-size B2B software, financial services, and healthcare technology companies frequently hire CPT students for account executive roles because structured onboarding in those sectors fits semester-based timelines.
Will my CPT experience count toward H-1B qualification for this role?
CPT experience in client-facing, revenue-generating roles does count as qualifying work experience when an employer sponsors your H-1B visa petition later. Business Account Executive falls under specialty occupation if the employer requires a relevant bachelor's degree. Documenting your responsibilities, accounts managed, and business outcomes during CPT strengthens that case significantly.
What happens if my CPT employer wants to convert me to a full-time hire?
CPT authorization is employer-specific and tied to your enrollment. A full-time post-graduation hire requires a separate work authorization, typically OPT or H-1B sponsorship. If the employer wants to convert you before graduation, your DSO must authorize a new CPT period or adjust your enrollment status. Start that conversation at least 30 days before your intended start date.
