Get Access To All JobsStrategic Account Executive CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Strategic Account Executive role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the role directly connects to your degree program and your school approves it. Strategic Account Executive positions typically align with business administration, marketing, management, or communications degrees. Your DSO will assess whether the job duties are an integral part of your curriculum, not just adjacent to your field of study.
Can I do CPT for a Strategic Account Executive role that includes commission-based pay?
CPT authorization itself doesn't prohibit commission pay, but you should document your total expected compensation carefully. Commission-heavy structures can become a problem if you later pursue H-1B visa sponsorship, since DOL requires the base salary alone to meet the prevailing wage level for the role in your work location.
How do I find Strategic Account Executive employers open to CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate to find employers with a track record of hiring F-1 students in sales and account management roles. Many enterprise software, SaaS, and professional services companies actively hire CPT students for strategic sales functions, especially those already enrolled in E-Verify with established international hiring processes.
Does CPT for a Strategic Account Executive role affect my OPT eligibility?
Full-time CPT used for 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours per week or less, doesn't affect OPT. If you're planning to use OPT after graduation, confirm with your DSO whether your CPT offer requires full-time or part-time hours before signing.
What happens if my Strategic Account Executive CPT role becomes a full-time offer after graduation?
A post-graduation full-time offer doesn't automatically convert your CPT authorization into post-completion OPT or any other work status. You'll need to apply for OPT through your DSO before your program end date, or your employer will need to file an H-1B petition if the role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards.
