CPT Quality Assurance Intern Jobs
Quality Assurance Intern roles in testing, compliance, and product validation are among the most CPT-compatible positions for F-1 students in engineering and computer science programs. Your DSO must authorize each CPT position individually, and the work must directly fulfill a curricular requirement, not just relate loosely to your field of study.

Get Access To All JobsQuality Assurance Intern CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Quality Assurance Intern role qualify for CPT?
Yes, as long as the QA work is an integral part of your curriculum and your DSO authorizes it. Programs in computer science, information systems, industrial engineering, and software engineering commonly include QA internships as fulfilling a practicum or project-based requirement. Your offer letter description should reference testing, validation, or quality processes that align with your program's learning objectives.
Can I do CPT for a QA internship at a startup or small company?
Yes. CPT eligibility depends on your school's authorization and the curricular connection, not the employer's size or industry. Small companies and startups don't need to file any paperwork with USCIS for CPT. The only requirement is that your DSO approves the specific position and employer, and that the work directly relates to your program of study.
How do I find Quality Assurance Intern roles that are open to F-1 CPT students?
Many QA internship postings don't specify CPT eligibility, so filtering by authorization type is more efficient than reading individual job descriptions. Migrate Mate surfaces roles where employers have a verified history of hiring F-1 students, letting you focus applications on companies already familiar with CPT documentation and I-20 requirements.
Does 12 months of full-time CPT in a QA role affect my OPT?
Yes, and this is one of the most consequential CPT rules for interns doing extended programs. USCIS considers 12 or more months of full-time CPT to eliminate your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours per week or fewer, doesn't count toward that limit regardless of how many semesters it spans.
What documents does an employer need from me to hire me on CPT for a QA internship?
The employer needs your current I-20 with CPT authorization on page two, showing the specific employer name, job title, and authorized dates. They'll also need your F-1 visa and passport for Form I-9 verification. Unlike OPT, there's no EAD card for CPT. Your I-20 is the only work authorization document the employer needs to retain.
