In the role of Mechanical Engineering Intern, we'll count on you to:
- Gain real-world experience on exciting projects (Healthcare, Data Centers, Water-Wastewater, Resources, Transportation, Federal, Aviation Facilities, Hospitality/Entertainment, Corporate Real Estate, Finance, etc.)
- Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals' programs
- Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures
- Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager
- Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefer 3 years completed (at end of semester) toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
- Demonstrated knowledge of software packages (Autodesk Revit, IESVE, Trane Trace 700/3D) related to field of study/industry
- Local candidates preferred
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
- Attention to detail
- Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Basic Microsoft Office skills
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Yes, if the role is an integral part of your established curriculum, meaning your program requires or offers academic credit for the work. Can I do a part-time mechanical engineering CPT while taking classes?
Yes. Part-time CPT is 20 hours per week or fewer and doesn't count against your OPT eligibility regardless of how many semesters you use it. Full-time CPT, defined as more than 20 hours per week, accrues toward the 12-month threshold that eliminates OPT eligibility, so structure your hours deliberately if post-graduation work authorization matters to you.
How do I find mechanical engineering internship employers who are set up for CPT students?

Does my mechanical engineering internship employer need to file anything with USCIS for CPT?
No. CPT authorization is issued by your DSO and reflected on your I-20. The employer doesn't file a petition with USCIS, unlike H-1B visa or O-1 visa sponsorship. The employer does need to be E-Verify enrolled if they're required by state law or federal contract, and they'll need to complete standard I-9 verification using your CPT-endorsed I-20 and valid passport.
What happens if my mechanical engineering CPT internship extends past my program end date?
CPT authorization expires when your program end date expires, and you can't work past it without separate authorization. If your internship runs long, your DSO may be able to extend your program end date if you have remaining coursework, but this requires advance planning. Working even one day past your CPT authorization end date is an F-1 status violation.
