Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Intern to support our Purchasing and Inventory Management teams. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain practical experience across the full procurement lifecycle — from sourcing and purchase order processing to physical inventory verification through cycle counts. The intern will work directly with our Purchasing team and Warehouse staff, playing an active role in day-to-day operations. This role is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field who are looking to apply classroom knowledge in a fast-paced, real-world environment.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing Support
- Assist buyers in processing purchase orders (POs) and tracking order status from placement through receipt.
- Research and evaluate suppliers, obtain competitive quotes, and support vendor qualification activities.
- Review and reconcile purchase order discrepancies, invoices, and delivery documentation.
- Maintain and update item master data, vendor records, and purchasing logs in the ERP system.
- Support expediting efforts to ensure on-time delivery of critical materials and components.
- Assist in identifying cost savings opportunities and documenting findings for the purchasing team.
- Help prepare purchasing reports, spend analyses, and supplier performance summaries.
Cycle Count & Inventory Management
- Participate in scheduled and unscheduled cycle counts across warehouse locations and storage areas.
- Accurately count, record, and verify inventory quantities using handheld scanners or count sheets.
- Investigate and document inventory variances, escalating discrepancies to the inventory control supervisor.
- Assist in root cause analysis for count discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
- Help maintain organized and properly labeled storage locations to support inventory accuracy.
- Support the reconciliation of physical counts against system records in the ERP/WMS.
- Contribute to improving cycle count procedures and documentation standards.
Qualifications
Required
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Associate's degree program in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations, or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy — especially when working with numbers and inventory data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (sorting, filtering, basic formulas).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Willingness to work in a warehouse or distribution environment, including standing and walking for extended periods.
Preferred
- Prior coursework or experience in procurement, logistics, inventory control, or operations.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar).
- Experience with warehouse management or inventory systems.
- Basic understanding of purchasing processes including purchase orders, receiving, and accounts payable.
What You Will Learn
By the end of the internship, you will have gained practical, resume-building experience including:
- End-to-end purchasing workflow — from requisition to receipt.
- Inventory control best practices including cycle count methodologies (ABC analysis, random sampling, location-based counting).
- How to work within an ERP system to manage procurement and inventory data.
- Cross-functional collaboration with warehouse, finance, and operations teams.
- Data analysis and reporting techniques applied to supply chain metrics.
- Problem-solving in a live operational environment with real business impact.
Physical Requirements
This role involves a combination of office and warehouse work. Candidates should be able to:
- Stand, walk, and move throughout warehouse or production floor areas for extended periods.
- Lift and carry items up to 30 pounds occasionally.
- Use handheld inventory scanning devices.
- Work in varying temperature conditions typical of a warehouse environment.
Salary Range: $20/hr
Benefits: Position not eligible for benefits.

Get Access To All JobsManagement Internship CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a management internship qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the internship directly supports a course or program requirement in your degree plan. Your DSO evaluates whether the role's duties connect to your curriculum, not just whether the title sounds relevant. General business management, operations coordination, and strategy roles in accredited programs commonly qualify, but your school sets the final standard.
Can I do a management internship on CPT before finishing my first year of study?
Most F-1 students must complete one full academic year before becoming eligible for CPT. Some graduate programs with internship requirements built into the first semester are an exception, but that exception requires explicit DSO approval. Confirm your program's CPT eligibility timeline with your DSO before pursuing offers.
How do I find management internship employers who are comfortable with CPT?
Browse employers on Migrate Mate filtered by work authorization type. Look for organizations that have filed Labor Condition Applications for management-track roles, since those companies have institutional familiarity with employment authorization processes. Mid-size firms in consulting, operations, and business services are consistently active in CPT hiring.
Does completing a full-time CPT management internship affect my OPT eligibility?
Yes. If you accumulate 12 months or more of full-time CPT, you become ineligible for OPT after graduation. Part-time CPT, defined as fewer than 20 hours per week, does not count against your OPT entitlement regardless of total duration. Track your cumulative full-time CPT hours carefully across all internship periods.
What should my CPT authorization letter include for a management internship role?
Your updated I-20 is the authorization document, not a separate letter. It must reflect your employer's name, your internship start and end dates, and whether the authorization is part-time or full-time. Your employer's offer letter, which your DSO typically requires to issue the updated I-20, should specify your job title, weekly hours, worksite address, and both dates.
