Bass Pro Shops Internship Program offers a 10-week immersive work program giving students a holistic overview of the business focusing on career and competency development while gaining valuable experience with a multifaceted company.
Here in Springfield, MO nestled among the natural beauty of the Missouri Ozarks, you’ll find Bass Pro Shops headquarters. We call it Base Camp. From here, it’s a short hike to pristine fishing holes, prime hunting grounds, wooded hills for camping, clear streams for canoeing, and much more. Why here instead of the big city? What our Interns get out of an Internship at Bass Pro Shops:
Working alongside talented individuals, you will be jumping in to assist with projects, research and work experience that directly impacts our business. As a key-player on the team, you will have professional development and networking opportunities with leadership in the organization to build your professional brand.
We can’t forget about the fieldtrips! You will have the opportunity to take team trips to learn about the many areas of our business. We will visit our Granddaddy retail store, Big Cedar Lodge and our Boat Manufacturing Plants offering a behind-the-scenes overview of the organization to get an immersive experience about our passion for the outdoors and conservation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists in the development of Proprietary Product, identifying market trends, and developing product and price structures
- Assists Merchant and Product Development team with product specifications, sourcing, forecasting, and marketing strategy
- Assists the merchant in the preparation of financial plans and business strategy
- Obtains vendor samples for new products. Logs and tracks all designs that the Merchandiser must approve and all TX’s that the Merchandiser or Catalog Assistant must approve
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Education Required: Completion of Junior year of college through graduating year
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
- Preferred Major:
- Available for full commitment of 10-week program (40 hours/week)
- Currently enrolled in accredited college or university in pursuit of bachelor’s degree in related field
- Eligible to work in the US
- Ability to relocate to work location for the duration of the program

- Travel required varies based on internship, minimal

Performs tasks and duties under direct supervision, using well-defined policies and procedures. Work is reviewed by supervisor. Limited opportunity exists for exercising independent judgment and decision making.

Does a Product Development Intern role qualify for CPT authorization?
It qualifies when your academic program includes coursework directly related to the role, product management, engineering design, market analysis, or UX research are common examples. Your DSO makes the final determination based on your specific curriculum. Roles that involve only administrative or clerical tasks are harder to justify even under a product development title.
Can I do CPT for a startup that doesn't have an HR department?
Yes. CPT authorization is school-issued and doesn't depend on the employer's size or HR infrastructure. The employer needs to provide a signed offer letter describing your responsibilities and employment dates. Your school processes the authorization through SEVIS, so the employer has no filing obligation before your start date.
What happens if my CPT authorization doesn't arrive before my start date?
You can't begin work until your updated I-20 showing CPT authorization is in hand. Starting early, even by one day, is considered unauthorized employment and can affect future visa status. Build in at least two weeks between submitting your CPT request to your DSO and your intended start date to absorb any processing delays.
How do I find Product Development Intern roles where the employer understands F-1 CPT?

Yes. Twelve months or more of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, regardless of total duration, doesn't affect OPT. If your product development internship is full-time across multiple semesters, track your cumulative authorized hours carefully with your DSO to protect your post-graduation work authorization options.
