CPT Internship Jobs
Internship roles are among the most common CPT authorizations for F-1 students, but your DSO must document a direct curricular link before you can start. Part-time CPT (under 20 hours weekly) preserves your 12-month OPT eligibility, while full-time CPT for 12 or more months eliminates it entirely.

Get Access To All JobsInternship CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does every internship qualify for CPT authorization?
No. Your DSO must confirm the internship is an integral part of your curriculum, which typically means it's tied to a specific course, a required practicum, or a degree program that lists work experience as a component. A general internship at a company in your field, with no documented academic connection, doesn't automatically qualify. Bring your program requirements and the job description to your DSO before applying.
Can I do a remote internship on CPT?
Yes, but the employer's physical address still determines the SEVIS record. Your DSO updates your I-20 with the internship location, and that address must be accurate even if you work remotely. If the employer is fully remote with no fixed office address, ask HR for the legal business address used for tax and employment purposes, then provide that to your DSO.
How do I find internships where employers already understand CPT?
Migrate Mate lists internship roles from employers with documented work-authorization experience, which reduces the back-and-forth of explaining CPT to HR teams unfamiliar with F-1 students. You can filter by role type and authorization compatibility rather than cold-applying and hoping the employer's HR team knows the process.
What happens if my internship extends beyond my original CPT end date?
You must stop working on the original CPT end date and cannot continue until your DSO issues an updated I-20 with the new authorization period. Extensions aren't automatic. Contact your DSO at least two to three weeks before your current authorization expires, and get a new offer letter from your employer confirming the extended dates and hours.
Does part-time versus full-time CPT affect my future H-1B eligibility?
CPT status itself doesn't affect H-1B visa eligibility. What matters is OPT: full-time CPT totaling 12 or more months eliminates your post-graduation OPT, which many students rely on as the bridge to H-1B sponsorship. Part-time CPT, defined by USCIS as under 20 hours per week, doesn't count toward that threshold regardless of how many semesters you use it.
