CPT Accounting Intern Jobs
Accounting Intern jobs are a strong CPT fit because the work directly maps to coursework in financial reporting, auditing, and tax compliance. Your DSO must authorize CPT before your start date, and the internship must be listed on your I-20. Part-time CPT (under 20 hours weekly) keeps your full-time OPT eligibility intact after graduation.

Get Access To All JobsAccounting Intern CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an accounting internship qualify for CPT?
Yes, if your school determines the work is an integral part of your accounting curriculum. Roles involving bookkeeping, financial analysis, tax preparation, or auditing support typically satisfy that standard. Your DSO makes the final call, so bring the full job description, not just the title, to your authorization appointment.
Can I do CPT at a small accounting firm that doesn't know immigration rules?
Yes. CPT authorization comes from your school, not your employer. The firm doesn't file anything with USCIS. They do need to provide a written offer letter and, in most cases, enroll in E-Verify before your start date. Sending them a one-page explainer from USCIS about F-1 CPT often resolves confusion quickly.
How do I find accounting employers who regularly hire CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate to identify accounting employers with a track record of hiring international students on work authorization. Firms that have consistently hired F-1 students understand the onboarding process and are less likely to withdraw offers over authorization questions.
Does part-time versus full-time CPT affect my accounting internship options?
It affects your OPT eligibility, not your job options. Part-time CPT, defined as fewer than 20 hours per week, doesn't count toward the 12-month full-time CPT limit that would eliminate OPT. If you plan to use OPT after graduation, structure your accounting internship as part-time CPT whenever your program allows it.
What happens if my accounting internship extends past my CPT authorization end date?
Working past your CPT end date is an unauthorized employment violation. If your internship extends, your DSO must update your I-20 before the original end date. Contact your DSO as soon as you know about an extension, because retroactive CPT authorization isn't permitted under F-1 regulations.
