Responsible for assuring the continuous supply of direct and indirect material and services to support local and brand based goals. Minimize the total landed cost of material, optimize company’s cash flow through Strategic Sourcing Initiatives.
Principle Duties (includes, but is not limited to):
- Evaluates and acts upon the MRP requirements and Kanban levels for all direct material items. Generates and adjusts purchase orders to support production schedules. Effectively communicates areas of concern to appropriate departments, individuals and/or suppliers. Inputs, maintains, and adjusts records or transactions to ensure system validity
- Effectively communicates forecasted requirements to external suppliers
- Maintains department ‘MDI’ board driving improvements in S,Q,D,C,G
- Drives increased inventory turns and improved customer OTD by developing, implementing and managing pull-based material replenishment processes, including, but not limited to Kanban cards, vendor managed inventory and supplier consignments
- Support resourcing and out-sourcing projects by proactively planning materials to ensure uninterrupted flow of product to customers as required
- Working with Crane Supply Chain in the review, development and creation of new and existing suppliers
- Negotiating pricing by leveraging manufacturing techniques, volume buys/blanket orders, tooling vs machining, etc.
- Evaluating using catalogue and alternate parts to increase product rationalization and drive productivity improvements
- Consistent with Crane’s Operational Excellence focus, participates in Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen events that will eliminate waste and result in significant benefits (Growth, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) throughout the Supply Chain
- Promotes a spirit of cooperation throughout the supply chain to insure responsiveness to the customer
- Participate in quality improvements as per IATF 16949 2016 to ensure completed toll gates for DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, and Process Capability studies for in house processes
- Ensure requirements of relevant standards like ISO 9001-2015, etc. are being consistently met and improved.
Essential Qualifications / Experience:
- In progress of achieving bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain Management, or related field
- Excellent analytical, problem solving/decision making skills; ability to make timely, effective, fact-based decisions
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft office suite software (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to perform and produce results in multifunctional teams in a dynamic work environment
- Proven ability to develop collaborative relationships and influence up, down, and across organizational lines
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
- Experience working with suppliers from low-cost regions (India, China, Eastern Europe, Etc.)
- Experience implementing lean concepts (Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen Leadership, 5S, etc)
- Knowledge and use of ERP systems
- Knowledge of supplier performance management practices, including supplier scorecards and performance metrics

Salary range: $25.00 hourly. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Does a supply chain internship qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your degree program includes coursework in operations, logistics, procurement, or industrial engineering and the internship directly applies those skills. Your DSO will verify the connection between the role and your curriculum. Generic business internships without a direct curricular link may not qualify, so bring a course map or faculty endorsement to your DSO appointment.
Can I do CPT at a logistics company even if my major is not supply chain?
It depends on your degree program and how your school defines curricular relevance. Industrial engineering, business analytics, and operations research students regularly qualify for supply chain CPT if their coursework covers demand planning, inventory systems, or process optimization. The deciding factor is your DSO's assessment of fit, not your major title alone.
What happens if my supply chain internship extends beyond the original CPT end date?
You must return to your DSO and get your I-20 updated with the new end date before the original authorization expires. Working even one day past your CPT end date constitutes unauthorized employment, which is a serious immigration violation. Request the extension at least two weeks before your current authorization ends to account for DSO processing time.
How do I find supply chain employers who have hired CPT students before?

Does working full-time on CPT during summer affect my OPT eligibility later?
Yes, but only the total cumulative count matters. USCIS rules state that 12 or more months of full-time CPT used before graduation eliminates OPT eligibility entirely. A single full-time summer internship is well under that threshold. If you plan multiple full-time CPT terms across different semesters, track your total carefully with your DSO to avoid hitting that limit unintentionally.
