This is a remote opportunity open to current college students enrolling in an internship course for college credit in NYC.
Position Title: Public Relations Intern, NYC Office Hybrid Internship
Internship Term: Spring 2027
Compensation: College credit [MUST be enrolled in college course]
Desired Fields of Study: Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or related fields
Hours Desired: 15-20/week (We are looking for the NYC intern to come to office 2 days per week)
A Day In The Life
As a Public Relations Intern at Power Digital's NYC office, you'll assist in sample coordination, beauty closet organization, client status updates, media tracking, and coverage reporting. This hybrid internship requires previous PR or influencer relations experience, strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills. You'll work two days per week in the office, contributing to media and influencer lists, and social media monitoring for clients.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate sample sends out of the NYC office
- Organize the beauty closet for product send outs/mailers
- Create labels for various product sendouts for clients
- Keep client status grids up to date
- Media tracking and clipping, as well as updating client coverage books
- Monitor press coverage for different clients as well as flagging competitor coverage
- Assist with coverage PA’s/SMA’s and monthly reports
- Update and maintain media and influencer lists for clients
- Flag any media coverage on social media for clients
Role Requirements
- Previous internship and/or professional experience (PR and/or Influencer specific experience is a plus!)
- Understanding of media relations and the PR industry
- Extreme attention to detail
- Inherently organized and able to juggle multiple projects flawlessly
- Proactive and team-oriented
- Positive, can-do attitude
- An eagerness to learn and develop overall communications skills
- Familiarity with PR processes
- Exceptional communication skills
- Sound understanding of AP Style and GSP in writing
- Strong writing skills

Does a Public Relations Intern role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your degree program includes communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field and your DSO confirms the role is an integral part of your curriculum. Most PR internship duties, media relations, content development, press outreach, map directly to communications coursework. Your DSO makes the final determination, so bring the job description to that meeting.
Can I work part-time as a PR intern on CPT while taking classes?
Yes. Part-time CPT is defined as 20 hours per week or fewer and doesn't affect your OPT eligibility, regardless of how many semesters you use it. Full-time CPT, more than 20 hours per week, used for 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Most PR internships during the academic semester are structured as part-time to protect that OPT buffer.
How do I find PR internships where employers already understand CPT?
Migrate Mate lists roles filtered by visa authorization type, making it easier to identify PR internships posted by employers with prior CPT experience. Employers who've hired CPT students before typically have streamlined onboarding and won't require HR to learn the process from scratch, which reduces delays between offer and your DSO authorization.
What documents do I need before my DSO can authorize CPT for a PR internship?
You'll need a formal offer letter on company letterhead that includes the employer's name, your job title, start and end dates, work location, and hours per week. Some schools also require a training plan or internship agreement signed by the employer. Collect these before scheduling your DSO appointment, missing any item typically delays authorization by a week or more.
Does completing a PR internship on CPT affect my future H-1B or OPT options?
Part-time CPT doesn't affect OPT eligibility at all. Full-time CPT totaling 12 or more months eliminates your OPT entirely, which would remove the 12-month OPT window and any STEM OPT extension you'd otherwise qualify for. Since most PR firms do sponsor H-1B visas, losing OPT means losing the most common bridge to H-1B status after graduation.
