CPT Registered Nurse Jobs
Registered Nurse CPT positions let F-1 nursing students earn supervised clinical hours that count directly toward their degree requirements. Your DSO must authorize each CPT placement before you start, and the role must align with your program's clinical training curriculum. Hospital systems, long-term care facilities, and outpatient clinics all hire CPT nurses.

Get Access To All JobsRegistered Nurse CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I work as a Registered Nurse on CPT without being licensed yet?
CPT authorizes the training arrangement, but state nursing boards control who can practice as an RN. Most states require full licensure before you can work independently in a clinical RN role. Some hospitals offer CPT placements under a graduate nurse or extern title while your NCLEX application is pending, which keeps you within state scope-of-practice rules while fulfilling your curricular hours.
How does my school determine whether a nursing CPT placement qualifies?
Your DSO evaluates whether the position is an integral part of your established curriculum, not just related to your field. For nursing programs, this typically means the role involves direct patient care, clinical skill development, or supervised practice in a setting that maps to your program's clinical competency requirements. A job in hospital administration or medical billing generally won't qualify, even at a healthcare employer.
Do hospitals know how to handle CPT work authorization for nurses?
Larger hospital systems and academic medical centers are more likely to have HR teams familiar with F-1 CPT, since they routinely hire international nursing students for clinical rotations. Smaller outpatient clinics may not. Before accepting an offer, ask HR whether they've processed CPT students before and whether they're enrolled in E-Verify, which is required for employment verification at most healthcare employers with federal contracts.
Where can I find Registered Nurse jobs that work with CPT students?
Migrate Mate lists nursing roles from employers with documented work authorization experience, so you're not cold-applying to facilities that have never hired an F-1 student. Look for postings at hospital systems, federally qualified health centers, and VA-affiliated facilities, which have the compliance infrastructure to handle CPT documentation without delays.
Does full-time CPT as an RN affect my OPT eligibility after graduation?
Full-time CPT used for 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely, including the STEM OPT extension. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours per week or fewer, has no impact on OPT. If you're planning to use OPT after graduation to bridge to H-1B sponsorship, confirm with your DSO whether your hospital placement will be classified as full-time or part-time before signing your offer letter.
