CPT Nursing Jobs
Nursing CPT roles place F-1 students in clinical settings where hands-on patient care is a required component of your degree program. Your DSO must authorize each CPT position before you start work, and the role must directly align with your nursing curriculum, rotations, practicums, and residency programs typically qualify.

Get Access To All JobsNursing CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I do CPT at a hospital if I don't have an active nursing license yet?
Yes, but the role must align with your training status. Many hospitals offer graduate nurse residency programs or clinical extern positions that accommodate students awaiting NCLEX results. Your offer letter must describe duties consistent with your curriculum, and your DSO authorizes CPT based on that alignment, not on licensure status. Confirm the specific unit's credentialing requirements with the employer before accepting.
Does CPT in a nursing role affect my OPT eligibility after graduation?
It depends on how many months of full-time CPT you accumulate. Twelve or more months of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, typically defined as 20 hours or fewer per week during the academic semester, doesn't count toward that limit. Track your CPT authorization dates carefully and discuss the distinction with your DSO before accepting any full-time clinical placement.
How do I find nursing employers who are familiar with F-1 CPT authorization?
Start with Migrate Mate, which surfaces nursing roles at employers with documented F-1 hiring history. Large academic medical centers and health systems affiliated with universities tend to have established processes for CPT paperwork. Smaller community hospitals may not, so it's worth asking HR directly whether they've authorized CPT students before and whether they're enrolled in E-Verify.
What documents does a hospital HR department typically require to process my CPT authorization?
Most hospital HR teams need your current I-20 with the CPT authorization endorsement, your valid F-1 visa, your I-94 record, and a copy of your offer letter or clinical rotation agreement. Some systems also request your SEVIS ID and proof of full-time enrollment. Confirm exactly what your employer's HR department needs before your start date, since missing one document can delay your onboarding.
Can I work in multiple nursing units or facilities on a single CPT authorization?
Generally no. CPT authorization is employer-specific and tied to a specific job description. If your clinical rotation involves placements at different facilities within the same health system, your DSO needs to authorize the arrangement explicitly, and the offer letter should name all participating sites. Working at a facility not listed on your CPT authorization puts your F-1 status at risk, so get any multi-site arrangement documented before you start.
