Creative Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a creative in Minnesota?
Most creative roles in Minnesota do not require a state-issued license, but employers consistently expect a degree in graphic design, fine arts, advertising, or communications alongside a strong portfolio. Minnesota has a robust network of programs at institutions like the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and the University of Minnesota that feed directly into local hiring pipelines. Building a portfolio through internships, freelance projects, or student work is the most direct path to landing a first role.
Which companies hire creatives in Minnesota?
Companies currently hiring creatives in Minnesota include Target, New Home Star, and Taher, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. The Twin Cities market is particularly active among large consumer brands, healthcare systems, and financial services firms that maintain in-house creative departments rather than relying entirely on agencies.
Which Minnesota cities have the most creative jobs?
Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and Edina have the most creative job openings in Minnesota. Minneapolis drives the bulk of demand as home to major corporate headquarters, advertising agencies, and media companies, while Saint Paul adds public sector and nonprofit creative work, and Rochester's growth around Mayo Clinic has created consistent demand for healthcare-focused content and design roles.
Are there remote creative jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 78% of creative openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves digital deliverables that travel easily. Roles focused on copywriting, content strategy, and digital design tend to be the most remote-eligible, while positions requiring hands-on production, studio work, or frequent client presentations are more likely to require an on-site presence in the Twin Cities.
How can I get hired as a creative in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an internship or junior-level role at a Twin Cities agency or in-house creative team, where employers regularly bring on recent graduates. Large Minnesota employers like Target and General Mills run structured internship programs that convert to full-time hires. Entry-level titles like junior designer, content coordinator, or production artist are common starting points, and candidates who complete a degree or certificate program at Minneapolis College of Art and Design or a University of Minnesota communications program carry a recognized credential that Minnesota hiring managers know well.
Where can I find and apply to creative jobs in Minnesota?
