Writer Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a writer in Minnesota?
Writing in Minnesota requires no state-issued license, but employers consistently favor candidates with a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or a closely related field. Building a portfolio of published or professionally produced work is the clearest path to getting hired. Many Minnesota employers, particularly in healthcare and financial services, also value specialized subject-matter knowledge, so coursework or experience in those sectors strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
Which companies hire writers in Minnesota?
Minnesota writer roles are posted by Mondelēz International, Walmart, and Medtronic and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Minnesota's large healthcare systems, financial services firms, and consumer retailers are among the most consistent sources of full-time writing openings in the state.
Which Minnesota cities have the most writer jobs?
Minneapolis, Eagan, and Cloquet have the most writer openings in Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro drives the majority of demand, anchored by the headquarters and regional offices of major healthcare, financial services, and retail organizations that maintain large in-house communications and content teams, while Rochester's concentration of medical institutions accounts for a notable share of technical and healthcare writing roles.
Are there remote writer jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 44% of writer openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting the desk-based and digital nature of most writing work. Content marketing, technical writing, and copywriting roles are the most frequently listed as fully remote, particularly at technology companies and organizations with distributed teams.
How can I get hired as a writer in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is building a portfolio through internships, freelance work, or campus publications before applying to junior content or communications associate roles. Minnesota's large healthcare systems, such as those in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro, frequently hire entry-level technical writers and content coordinators. Moving laterally from editorial assistant, marketing coordinator, or communications specialist roles is also common, and a demonstrated ability to write clearly in a specific industry like healthcare or finance gives candidates a measurable edge.
Where can I find and apply to writer jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to writer jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and interests, and apply directly to each position.
