Data Analyst Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data analyst in Illinois?
Illinois does not require a state-issued license to work as a data analyst, so the path runs through education and demonstrated skills. Most Illinois employers expect a bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, economics, computer science, or information systems. Building proficiency in SQL, Python, and a visualization tool like Tableau or Power BI, then completing a portfolio project or internship with an Illinois employer, are the steps that move candidates into their first role.
Which companies hire data analysts in Illinois?
Employers hiring data analysts in Illinois right now include TransUnion, ADM, and Capital One, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of financial institutions, health systems, and logistics companies means demand for data analysts is spread across multiple industries rather than a single dominant sector.
Which Illinois cities have the most data analyst jobs?
Chicago has by far the most data analyst openings in Illinois, followed by northern suburbs in the Lake County area where large employers like AbbVie are based. Chicago drives most listings through its corporate headquarters, financial firms, and health systems, while the suburban counts are concentrated at a few big employers.
Are there remote data analyst jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 73% of Illinois data analyst openings are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, since much analyst work can be done independently. Reporting, dashboard, and analysis-focused roles offer the most fully remote options, while roles tied to operations or clinical teams lean hybrid.
How can I get a data analyst job in Illinois with little or no experience?
Build a portfolio of hands-on projects using public datasets like the City of Chicago's open data portal or the Illinois Department of Public Health, rather than waiting for formal experience. A capstone project, a nonprofit data initiative, or a recognized SQL or business intelligence certification signals practical readiness, and many Illinois employers hire entry-level analysts on demonstrated skill rather than years of work history.
Where can I find and apply to data analyst jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to data analyst jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings across industries and experience levels. Search the openings available, find the roles that match your background and preferences, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
