BI Analyst Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a bi analyst in Illinois?
Illinois does not require a state-issued license to work as a bi analyst, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical skill. Most Illinois employers expect a bachelor's degree in business analytics, information systems, computer science, or a related field. Earning vendor certifications such as Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate or Tableau Desktop Specialist strengthens your candidacy considerably. Building a portfolio of dashboards and SQL work is especially valued by Chicago-area employers in financial services and healthcare.
How much do BI analysts make in Illinois?
BI analysts in Illinois earn a median of about $106,560 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $68,810 for the lowest 10% to over $168,880 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire bi analysts in Illinois?
Employers hiring bi analysts in Illinois right now include CSL Plasma, RSM, and Ryan Companies US, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters in the Chicago metro, particularly in financial services, insurance, and retail, means large enterprise analytics teams post openings on a recurring basis throughout the year.
Which Illinois cities have the most bi analyst jobs?
Chicago, Peoria, and Bradley account for the largest share of bi analyst openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates due to its density of corporate headquarters, financial institutions, and healthcare systems, while Naperville and Schaumburg attract openings because major technology and insurance firms maintain large suburban campuses there, creating steady demand for analytics professionals outside the city core.
Are there remote bi analyst jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 70% of bi analyst openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well the work translates to distributed environments. Dashboard development, SQL querying, and report building are the tasks most commonly performed fully remote, while stakeholder-facing work such as discovery sessions and executive presentations tends to require at least occasional on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a bi analyst in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate analyst role within a company that has a structured analytics team, which gives you mentorship and access to real datasets. Large Illinois employers in healthcare such as Advocate Health and financial services firms like Northern Trust and Discover Financial have historically brought on analysts at the associate level. Adjacent roles such as data coordinator, reporting specialist, or business systems analyst provide a strong lateral move into BI work. A portfolio showing Power BI or Tableau dashboards built on public datasets gives Illinois hiring managers something concrete to evaluate when your professional experience is limited.
Where can I find and apply to bi analyst jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to bi analyst jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to the employers posting them.
